Question about 1994 Chevrolet Lumina APV
Van idles fine . when driving it boggs down almost to a stall and then boost of power . done a tune up complete , oil change , and removed the ac for a bad pully but have noticed heavy carbon on the inside of the throddle body with a rich gas smell under the hood.
My van had the same promblem no power then just picked back up and ran great. It was the knock senor, located on the front of the motor beside the starter.

Sounds like you have a finished exhaust manifold gasket and possibly a intake gasket problem.this will certainly give you the excess carbon and gas smell you speak of. another could be a loose or worn timimg belt.before going any further have your vehicule scannedand do a compression test. then you will be sure what to repair.

Put a fuel system cleaner in the gas. try checking o2 sensors and clean all that carbon out of the throttle body
