Sounds like the trans imput shaft bearing. They tend to wear and cause shifting problems. It also could be synchronizers. Marlin Crawler makes aftermarket trans bearings for these transmisions.

I hope this helps. Also check tranny fluid and clutch. a worn or bad clutch will also cause this.

another possible cause for this the transmission grinding. most the Toyota trans have nylon wear pads on the shifter in the top of the trans.

When it comes to Automatic Transmissions they are best left to the pros! If you know how to service it, try that first. Fluid, filter, check vacuum lines, and modulator.

Automatic transmision making grinding noise and will not move in drive or reverse

Loss of fluid or transmition pump went out. Replace as needed.

Transmition may need to be analyzed for any gear damage.

Hi, I have a 1995 volvo 850 with automatic tranny...all forward gears work fine but reverse does not engage unless you stick your foot out the door and roll the car back 2-4 feet then you can feel reverse...

check the transmition fluid level, ( do this with the engine running & the selector in P) if low top up & see if fault cured
also check fluid is no dis-coloured or smells burnt, if so you may have to drain the transmition & change the filter & fluid, a transmition flush would be a good idea.
if the problem remains it is most likely the seals/clutches in the transmition are worn

Depending on how many miles or if the truck is lifted the U joints or center support bearing behind the transmition or transfer case go out. This would be identified by a twisting or bad vibration in the area of the shifter. look to see if the shifter moves to the right or left a lot when starting out. This kind of action would diminish with speed. Be sure to check the fluid level of the transmition and gear box. Low fluid levels can destroy gears fast. If shifting becomes difficult or the gear makes a lot of noise this may be the problem (usualy with manual transmitions).

95 mazda 626 automatic transmition....will not reverse

Check you transmission fluid level and if it's not your transmission, I'm thinking that your brake shoe lineing in the rear brakes may have separated and is jamming up aginst the drums when your trying to back up. Sorry can't halp you with any more, good luck and start with that and hope it help's.
