Hi Thank you very much I did not think about the theft prevention. It is a 2.4L. I have a scanner but it does not run long enough to give any error codes. The scanner says it has scaned about 50% of the sensors but that's all it indicates.

The car had a fuel leak at the filter. I replaced the filter and flushed the gas line. It appeared to have dirt in it. I bought the car not running and the engine computer was missing so I purchased the new refurbished computer. My plan is to start going through all the sensors and doing the checks I can.

Can the crank or can sensor cause a shut down like this?

or am I at apoint I need to take it to a dealer or shop?

Thanks again. Any info on how to address a theft prevention system?

Hi...
Depend of the Model and Engine size.
Some of this Computer need to be Programed with the Vin number and Theft code,
To work correctly.
But the first step I can Recomend is Get the Vehicle Scanned to see if there any available code.
To do the Right procedure related with the code. ..
But some times even when you Have programed the computer but if the BODY computer has a problem will prevent the car to running.
When the Engine run for about 5 seconds, is mean the Theft system is activated.
Are a few step to program the ECM installed on the car.
But is a little complicated because all the Accessories need to work ok. Door locks, Horn, Lights.
Door lock cylinders and Trunk lock cylinder.

Try with the scanner, first.
But if you need some information let me know.
I'm a mechanic and have information for all Vehicles.

Thank you for use fixya....

    Ok...

With the Cam or Crank sensor bad.

The vehicle will not Runnimg at all. On ly will Crank but not Run.

If you Know a little about Mechanical work.

    Maybe you can fix.

But You have to Know CHRYSLER vehicles are very Delicated on the Electric system. And Modules

To help you about the Posibility of the Theft system.

Or other possibilities I will Need.

    The VIN Number. Model.

And the Number of the ECM. You have for it. All the Number. with not matter if is Original or Aftermarket.

I need this info. to see axactly if the car is equipaded with theft System.

And the Right prossedure to Program.

    OK.. Let me know..

Why is check engine light is on for 2001 dodge stratus, flashes 5 times but car doesnt run bad and not losing power

Take it to someone who can read the OBDII scan codes out of the computer. You may be seeing signs of incipient catastrophic engine failure.

'98 dodge stratus is having problems starting. once i get it started and it runs for about 5-10 mins, if i shut it off i will have to let it cool for about 5 mins before it will start again. what could...

If you want help that is accurate and applies to your vehicle, it would be really helpful if you would take the time to mention which engine your Stratus is equipped with. This information can make a HUGE difference in the type of information and advice that can be given to you.

That being said, some of the engines used in Dodge Stratus have had problems with the distributor modules going bad and causing the symptoms you are describing. On these models, complete replacement of the distributor is required to correct the problem.

Otherwise, I would say that the problem is most likely caused by a cranshaft position sensor or a bad coil pack or ignition module.

96 dodge stratus wont start starter clicks doesnt turn over..check engine light flashes 5 times then pauses then flashes 5 times and so on.. ideas???

I would have your battery load tested and check your cable connections at the starter and battery.

A bad battery may show 12 volts, but not be able to put out a big enough current for the starter.

The starter could also be bad and giving you the same symptoms. Sounds like the starter solenoid is probably ok, but the starter motor is what could be bad.

If you are handy, you usually can take starters and batteries out of your car and take them to a local parts store to be tested.

My dodge durango(2003) shut off on me when i was driving yesterday. Engine cranks but doesn't start. Relays and fuses are all good. any ideas?

It sounds like the fuel pump has failed, I'd start by checking the fuel pressure. Turn everything off so you hear whether on not the fuel pump runs when you turn the key to "on". The pump should run for 3-5 seconds and the stop and it won't start running again, until you turn the key to "start".

Car leaks a lot of antireeze near front of engine

It sounds like a bad water pump. Start by checking hose first. then check thermostat gasket , then check water pump. Replace radiator cap. It is not releasing pressure causing the pressure to find the weakest point somewhere else.
