Question about Subaru Legacy

I have a 1990 subaru rs legacy with standard fuel pump set-up recently having problems with it keeps blowing the fuse 4 fuel pump thats under the hood after a couple times of replacing it. it now is not getting any power in the wires down the side of the car but the wires under the bonnet are still live any ideas??

Sounds like the wires between the underbonnet and the pump have shorted out, burned through and are now open. Try replacing them. good luck, John

The fuel pump relay is located under the dash on the drivers side. The fuel pump relay is green and it should be next to a brown relay for the ignition.

check wastegate(round valve on turbo)is working it may be loosing vacuum,or you have an electrical issue with the boost controler,but check wastegate first as its easier and could be the problem

subaru provided a access port in the truck of the vehicle where a round plate can be removed to access unit. tank removal not neccessary. recomend replacing with factory oem part from dealer for best results.

Drain the fuel


there is no drain plug. you may have to drop the tank and tip it over to drain in to a tub.
or you can disconnect the fill tube from the tank it self from under the car and put a hose in it , and attach an electric fuel pump to it. pump it out that way.
you can get a cheap external pump from almost any parts store.
