Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

Transmission "drops" For the routine maintance on our 2000 LeSabre we had our transmission fluid changed (at scheduled time). Several days later I notice when I reached 45 mph I could feel the transmission "drop" into gear. When I took it back, the problem would not repeat. My father thought it was just me, until he was driving and the car it did the same with him. If the car was shut off, what ever the problem, it would "reset" itself and the transmission would do fine. This worked for a while, but instead of just "dropping" at 45 mph, it would "drop" with every shift. The dealer said that since there were no lights on (no check engine or other problems) nothing would show up on a test. Their advice was change fluid again (which we did - it did not help) and drive until the transmission comes out. When the car is not acting up it runs excellent, but has now gotten to the point where it "drops" almost every time. Any idea of a problem?

Have same car, had SIMILAR problem. Only did it for me at 45-50mph. It totally felt like the tranny was "dropping", like you described. I was shocked to learn it was actually spark plug wires. I know, that makes it sound like I'm cracked, but after a new set of wires went in, she ran great. If you're still scratching your head, I'd at least check the wires before taking on something as costly as the trans. Hope it helps. Mine was at 60k or so when it happened.

Changing the fluid may have caused a piece of dirt to get into the valve body of the transmission or a shift solenoid is sticking, did the shop use the latest fluid which is recommended by GM for all transmission now? it is called Dexron 5, check with them on that.

How often to change tranmission fluid on a 2002 lincoln ls

Hi Gary,

There is a small dilema here. The Owner's Manual for your Lincoln says to refer to the Maintenance schedule to find the proper interval for replacing your transmission fluid. Here is where the problem arises: The Maintenance schedule published for your vehicle says to replace the transmission fluid at 30,000 mile intervals for several transmission models. Then it "excepts" the models that are not lsted by transmission model number in the preceeding text - yours is not listed.

Then, when I go to the service manual and search by your vehicle (2000 Lincoln LS) it says to replace the transmission fluid at 30,000 mile intervals without any exceptions.

Here is what I recommend to my customers:

CHECK the fluid every 30,000 miles and REPLACE the fluid and filter every 60,000 miles. I have found that this works for almost every make and model out there. I have several customers with over 300,000 miles on their cars that have never had transmission overhauls.

Where is the oil drain plug on my 2003 buick lesabre?

Should be directly below the engine at the oil drain pan. It should be a larger drain bolt that screws into the oil drain pan.

The transmission pan may be next to it but won't have a drain plug. The transmission fluid pan has several small bolts that hold it on and the whole pan has to be dropped to change that fluid.

Good luck on finding hte oil drain plug for the 2003 Buick LeSabre.

Need firing order with diagram

Firing order 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8
Distributor rotor turn's clockwise
cylinder's 1-2-5-7 left side of motor
cylinder's 2-4-6-8 right side of motor back side by fire wall.

Keep up with your oil changes every three months or 3,000 miles which ever comes first, also at same time have all fluid level check, fuel filter and air filter replace once a year, tune-ups every two years, have your brakes check once a year, unless then feel funny have them check right away, transmission if fluid and filter has not been change every 30,000 miles, I leave it alone or new fluid will damage transmission clutches and transmission will have to be overhaul within 30 to 60 days.

Want to know if you recommend a transmission flush for my car? It has over 140,000 miles. What sevices do you recommend?

Yes a tranny flush would be great. I would recommend Either Going out and purchasing a new tranny filter, gasket and Transmission fluid from your local Auto parts store and doing it yourself, CHEAPEST. Or going to your local Valvoline to have it flushed. Cost is around $100

When should I chane the transmission fluid??

Most vehicles have a book in the glove compartment that tells the schedule in which to change all fluids. Transmission fluid should be changed periodically, especially if it gets dirty. If you dont know the last time it was changed and you have over 20,000 miles then you should have it and the filter changed. If you can't find the book, call around to several shops and ask them how often they recomend changing the fluid. Remeber that some shops will tell you to come sooner because they want your business more often.

Transmission shifts irratic when cold

If fluid level is good, the hydraulic value of the trans fluid maybe low or worn. If fluid is old or burnt, (never been changed, or high mileage,) sometimes not a good idea to flush. Highly suggest LUCAS (ONLY) Transmission Treatment, carefully read instructions on bottle. Transmission replacement is expensive, following maintance will prove rewarding! If you wait to long to flush trans your worse off!!! Hopefully helpful!!!!

How often to change tranny fluid?

The Lexus Severe Maintenance Schedule is every 60,000 miles which should be in your owners manual, dealers sometimes make up their own.

Transmission will intermittently not shift

After driving it a while did you check the fluid level, the filter will absorb a good amount of the fluid and even though you put the recommended amount it may need a little bit more. It sounds like to me that it may not have enough fluid to create the necessary pressure to get the gears changing. The fluid gets thinner as it heats up and loses the ability to create pressure in the transmission. Were you having a problem before that prompted the fluid and filter change that perhaps wasn't fixed by the change?

How many quarts of oil are used in a 3.3 liter engine of a 2000 dodge caravan se

You wanna put 4 and ahalf in turn the key a couple half cranks then you should need to put the last half qt in as for the transmission filter most of the time you do not want to change them unless the transmission is acting up because that normally causes you more problems in the future unless it was done on a scheduled routine basis.
