Question about 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

2002 monte carlo EVAP problem continues.

Car has EVAP code. I've checked all the lines and hoses, and found them to be ok. i replaced the gas cap, and then the purge solenoid (on the intake). I cleared the code after each one was replaced, but after a couple days of driving, the check engine light comes back on. What do I need to do next?

What do I do to find out what the problem is? 2002 monte carlo engine light is on. diagnostic code PO442

A simple google search reveals this is a small leak in the emissions canister system vacuum lines. This can be as simple as a bad gas cap, or a cracked or broken vacuum hose.

What is code PO446 on a 2001 monte carlo ?

that is EVAP failure.
buy a new gas cap and reset the codes. drive,
if comes back,
do a tank vent system leak down test. fails, fix that next
if that passes, test all EVAP valves. end to end.
the FSM covers this
so does , log in and read.

Where the evap vent valve solenoid on a 1998 chevy monte carlo

well most evap solenoids are either on the back by fuel tank, by differential, or infront by firewall or wheel fender wells which need a lil dissasembly. probably a vacum leak first check ure gas cap that it actually locks and reset code if comes back either a leak to the solenoid or bad connector corrosion maybe.

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo. Have there been issues trying to fill the gas tank? I can't open up a gas nozzle as it stops like the tank is full. The gas just does not go down cleanly, backing up or...

You either have an obstruction in the filler tube or the vent tube on the filler is clogged so it is not allowing air to escape as the gas is going in.

Trouble codes p440 evap I need help please

P0440 is a large leak, specifically. If its not the gas cap, the vent solenoid is usually the next on the list of likely component failures. Could be the purge valve or a ruptured hose....but without a smoke machine and a scanner that can actuate all the different components, its pretty hard to really diagnose it.
It takes 1 malfunction to create a pending DTC... at 2 consecutive malfunctions the MIL{Check Engine light, etc.} Ok, after you fix it, it should take 3 trips to turn off the light, then 40 more to Remove the code from the computers memory.
Start with the simple and replace the Gas Cap, Buy a OEM and not an after market Gas Cap. The after Market are generics that are make for a wide variety of cars and after a few months your looking in to replacing the cap again.
Good luck and if it's not the gas cap then check the next thing mentioned above.

99 chevy monte carlo error code p0446 what is this how doi fix

well this code is related to the fuel venting system. generally it is an error in the gas cap, evap vent valve, purge valve, or just a small leak in the vent line itself. I would suggest a smoke test that checks these systems. Not all garages will do them. you will have to call around. The test usually cost around $50-$60 but it is worth the cost because it prevents you from changing the wrong parts

Check engine Light

The P0455 indicates you have a gross vacuum leak in the EVAP system.
Start at the engine and the vacuum purge valve, start checking the vacuum hoses and lines all the way back to the EVAP canister near the gas tank. Make sure no hose or lines are cracked / disconnected.
If all looks OK, let me know and we will proceed from there. Below is a schematic of the EVAP system for reference.
Good luck and let me know.

02 monte carlo- EVAP code. tried new gas cap & erase code, check engine light back on w same code. how can i diagnose the system?

hi there, you see todays cars are so emmision friendly that not even the vapors from your tank can be released into the atmosphere so what they have done is all your vapors are put into a charcoal canister to absorb the vapors and the next time you start the car it has a purge solenoid open and burn the vapors off. if you look around the intake youll see a hose with a green cap follow it back to the charcoal canister and while your doing that just check the hoses and the hoses around the canister to make sure there is no holes or cracks in them and then follow the hose from the canister to the gas tank. if every thing looks good then i would replace the purge solenoid.
