Question about 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser
On my 95 toyota land cruiser oil staited leaking from valve cover and I changed the oil with 7.8 qt of recomended oil. now I found out when engine running I do have good oil pressure on gage ,If I take out the oil filter while engine running I go get oil sprayed out of oil filter place but my oil depstik is completly dry and wont show any oil level while engine running I so I turn of the engine and I need to wait for 5 min to get the oil level regestered on dipstike.
I think oil comes to valve cover station but doesnt go back to oil pump section.
Whoa! Never remove the oil filter while the motor is running. Alot of vehicles have valve cover leakage and it is easily repaired with a new valve cover gasket. It is completely normal for the dipstick to be dry until the motor is off and all oil has drained from the upper compartments of the engine including the area where the oil lubricates the valve guides. Most mechanics will place the vehicle on a completely level area and then wait 15 minutes or so after the motor is off to check the oil. The dipstick will always show that you have low oil if you check it while the motor is running as the oil is elsewhere doing it's job. If you replace your valve cover gasket be sure to not overtighten and tighten in a random crisscross pattern so that you have uniform pressure all along the gasket. There are torque guides for this and you can usually get them from your local parts house. Buy a good torque wrench also.
