Question about 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Fuel injectors or Distributor Cap?

My 121000 mile 99'Sebring conv. limited is now running rough and with the "service engine soon" light blinking sometimes and sometimes not.
Is it fuel injectors, fuel filter or distributor cap/rotor? My mechanic has already replaced spark plugs and plug wires.
Perhaps something else altogether?

The blinking CEL light is an indication of a miss-fire, run the code retrival test to find out what cylinder is the one missing, at your miles it could be almost anything from a low compression issue to a bad distributor cap, a fuel injector could be the problem, run the test and get back to me, Kragen and other chain parts stores will test the system for codes for FREE!

Fuel Rail Leak


Did did you change the o-ring at the fuel line to fuel rail connector? Do that before you change the fuel rail. According to an e-bay seller who is selling a used fuel rail from his salvage shop, the following fuel rails are interchangeable.

2001 chevy blazer engine problems


I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what cylinder is misfiring; sometimes clogged fuel injectors cause this. Have you tried replacing any?

Check the compression on the suspect cylinders to rule ot a blown head gasket(compression loss between cylinders). Then check that injectors have power on those two cylinders . you may have injectors / wiring problem) since these cylinders are all on the same side dont over look this) runnig rich could be ignition problem make sure to check for spark at the plugs.

Also, here some information:
Poor Engine Performance - Misfire, Rough Idle, Stalls, Engine Cranks but Does Not Run, Service Engine Soon/Check Engine Light Illuminated, DTC P0300 Set (Inspect Distributor Ignition (DI) System Components and Replace As Necessary)

2001-2003 Chevrolet Astro, Blazer, Express, S-10

2001-2003 GMC Jimmy, Safari, Savana, Sonoma

2001 Oldsmobile Bravada

with 4.3L, 5.0L or 5.7L Gas Engine (VINs W, X, M, R -- RPOs L35, LU3, L30, L31)

Some customers may comment on poor engine performance and the Service Engine Soon/Check Engine light being illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC P0300 set.

Cause

This condition may be due to high levels of internal corrosion in the distributor, causing misfire, rough idle, stall and Engine Cranks But Does Not Run. This corrosion is attributed to a lack of airflow internal to the cap caused by the vent screens being clogged with debris.

Correction

Remove the vent screens and inspect the internal components of the Distributor Ignition System using the procedure listed below. If the distributor base has to be replaced, the vent screens will also have to be removed on the new distributor. If there is evidence of this internal corrosion, replace the affected component. .

Inspect the distributor cap. You may notice a white residue on the cap walls. For higher mileage occurrences, the interior of the cap may have changed to medium brown in color

Inspect the distributor rotor. You may notice the presence of black streaks on the plastic surface. More typical evidence would be visible green spots on the copper surface of the rotor segment.

Inspect the distributor base. You may notice high levels of surface rust on the distributor shaft or surface contamination on the sensor hold down screws.

Inspect the distributor vent screens (1). If the vent screens are present, remove them by using a plastic-handled, long blade awl or pick (2). Insert into the airflow vent screens and pop them out. Refer to the figure for removal procedure. If the vent screens have been removed from the base of the distributor, then check the airflow inlets for being clogged with debris.

Dodge stratus misfire, runs rough has random misfires in cylinder 1,3,and 5 and a vacuum leak, I,m not too worried about the leak unless it is related to the misfire


I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR.MARK LOCATION OF ROTOR OR MAKE NOTE SO YOU CAN INSTALL NEW ROTOR IN CORRECT FIRING POSITION. IF THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF MILES I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR.SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE IGNITION COIL.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, FILL GAS TANK UP TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS POUR CAN SEAFOAM IN FUEL TANK IT WILL FLUSH OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING OR DRIVING CAR. REPLACE FUEL FILTER. REASON I SAY DO A TUNE UP PROBLEM COULD BE MINOR FIX.COULD NEED TUNE UP.IF TUNE UP DONT HELP THEN YOUR PROBLEM IS DISTRIBUTOR OR THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSIDE OF DISTRIBUTOR.THAT WOULD SET OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BUT I WOULD SAY TUNE UP COULD FIX PROBLEM.

The P0304 indicates the #4 cylinder is misfiring. The flashing light means the cylinder is not firing at all...It could be several things causeing it, coil, wires, plug, injector or vacuum leak. Do not drive your vehicle until you have this repaired, as it will lead to further more costly problems. Good luck, i hope this helps.
