Question about 2002 Nissan Altima
It was running fine last nite, however this afternoon it made a series of clicks and did not turn over. All of the dash lights were normal at the time. Now, the interior lights are dimmed and the only lights on in the dash are my airbag and seat belt lights. I am getting no clicks, and the light around the key insert is faded and flashing. I initially rechecked to make sure that my flood lights/headlights were not left on~they were not. All doors/trunk were shut appropriately as well. I don't understand what could have caused a drain on my battery~or if it is something more serious.
It depends on where you live. if it is cold, the battery will be drained by the morning. try replacing the battery and cleaning the cables and clamps. It also depends on how long you have had the battery. If the known good battery does not work you have an alternator problem. it is not charging the battery. But that chance is slim since you started the car the previous night. If you can start the car, you can check the alternator by placing a long screwdriver at the back being careful not to touch any positive cables, and placing the screwdriver right in the middle of the alternator where the bushing is at. ( a little rise on the back) and if you feel a magnetic pull your alternator is good. If you don't it is bad. Be very careful doing this . But it is totally up to you to try it.
