If the coolant light is on or comes on when driving you MUST let the car cool down at lest 1 hour before doing anything, after this cool down time lift the hood [u.s.a.] or bonnet [uk] looking from the front of the car on the right hand side towards the back of the engine compartment is the coolant header tank, about 5inch square black in color [u.s.a.] colour [uk] with a large screw top and some rubber pipes coming from it,this should be topped up with coolant right to the neck of the screw cap when you remove the cap to top up the coolant unscrew it slowly as it may be under pressure you don't want hot 212F[u.s.a.] 100C [uk] coolant in your face do you.good luck.

Reoccuring Coolant Leak - Now major leak

The Jaguar XK8 has a coolant hose on the rear of the engine that is prone to leaking. The leak is typically on the right side, right above the catalytic converter. There is a quick disconnect fitting that has an o-ring in it. This O-ring fails with age, and the coolant leaks from the connector.

How do you add coolant to 98 xj jaguar

If you look under the hood/bonnet, you will see a resevoir with a black (possibly grey) and will have writing on it. With the engine cold, remove/unscrew the cap and you can add at this point. You should be able to see the level from the side and compare to the graduation marks on the side. The resevoir will be yellowish in color. Let me know if you need anything else.

My 1998 Jaguar XK8 coolant light goes on, but there is not problem with the coolant system, or sensor

it sounds as if you have an old code stored and its popping up if there is nothing wrong with the sensor try unhooking the battery for about 5minutes then hooking it up if that dosent prevent it from coming on again you will need some one to clear the code out of the computer.

On xk8 the coolant level indicator is showing - can i top up with water or do i need coolant. are there any follow ups required?

The only time you should use water is in emergencies only, always use coolant specific to your brand of car. The cooling system is a closed system needing only periodic maintenance, the fact that the indicator light is on I would take it for a check up.

There is a tank separate from the radiator, add the coolant there, follow the hoses from the radiator to the tank.
