How do i reset my alarm on my 1999 ford explorer

If it starts and runs, it's not the security. Most common things I have found to drain the battery are. The alternator(even though it is putting out the voltage), the starter, the interior lights(wiring here) and the radio (Internal problems)

Car draining the battery , alternator is new, car starts fine but the battery light is on, battery is new also, don't even know... please help pontiac grand am 1996 v6... there is a broken wire , but both...

It looks like the wiring needs to be checked, you mentioned a wire that is reconnected, maybe it is damaged in another place, the light comes only if the alternator does not work or is not properly wired.

Something keeps DRAINING the battery?

If you disconnect the negative battery cable and connect a 12V test light between the battery negative post and the negative battery cable terminal the light will burn if there's a draw. Make sure all electrical consumers are off and all doors closed when doing this draw test. If the light is on start pulling 1 fuse at a time until the light goes out, when it goes out that's the circuit that has the draw. Trace it from there.

Hi i had a 1996 sportage AT,the problem with my sportage it wont start and the battery is always drained up specially when not in use.even witha new battery it wont start up

Have an alternator test performed to verify that the alternator is working adequately. If it's not charging the battery enough a drain will result.

If that's not the case, then a parasitic draw test will have to be performed to find out where the drain is coming from. Chances are something like the glove box light is remaining on, or you have a minor short causing the battery to drain. You can look up how to do this but it's a better idea to see the dealership as they have the Kia specific training to do this and will know the common problems to look for.

Good luck!

1996 nissan maxima battery is not holding charge..

I'm thinking that either you have something draining power all the time or your battery is not getting its proper charge.Have you tried removing a battery cable when you park it to see if that makes any difference? That would tell you if something in the car is draining power. Have you had it tested to see how much power the alternator is putting out, should be close to 14 volts, and did you test to see if that power is getting to the battery? There might be a problem with the feed to the battery. Hope this helps.

My sisters 1996 lincoln continental sometimes starts sometimes wo

Definitely sounds like a starter. When a bad starter is cold, it will start the car. After riding around for a while or after several starts in a row, the starter heats up and won't start without a boost. Since you've ruled out the battery and alternator, I'm positive a new starter will solve your problem. Good Luck!

Audi A4 1.8 1996 do not start

Have you tested the battery for power drain. If not, this should be your first step to a solution. If there is any aftermarket audio equipment, radars, gps, etc. One may be pulling enough current to drain the battery. If you know how to test for this sort of thing great, if not take it to any local car audio store, car toys, best buy, circuit city, even auto zone and have them test for current drain. This is a time staking process. The negative terminal of the battery must be detached and in line with your multimeter. You must then wait for all of the cars computers, lights, etc. to turn off. If there is current drain, you should be able to go through the vehicle and unplug any aftermarket equipment one by one to see which is the source....also pulling fuses may help as well. (keep in mind that during testing, if any door is open, hood light switched on, you will not get an accurate reading.) I highly reccomend consulting with a professional.

Something seems to drain the battery when the Jeep is parked not running

Hi there,

This response contains troubleshooting procedures designed to locate the cause of an overnight power drain resulting in a dead battery, It assumes the charging system is working.

The first (and easiest) test I run is on the battery.

When you are done using it for the evening, pull the Negative battery cable.

In the morning, re-connect it. If it's dead again, the battery needs replacement.

If it starts, the battery is ok. It's time to look for the power drain.

With the ignition off, ensure the systems that should be off actually are off. For example: does the radio still come on? Wipers? Etc.?

In the same vein, has anything new been installed lately?

The next test is a lot more tedious. You will need a test light, needle nose pliers (to pull fuses) and the proper tools to remove the negative battery terminal (again).
  • Ignition off
  • Remove the cable from the Negative battery terminal
  • Hook one end of your test light to the Negative battery post
  • Attach the other end to the cable you just removed
  • Again, double check connections to recent installations (radio, GPS, etc)
  • If it lights up very faintly, this is likely the normal drain of the clock. The brighter the light, the bigger the drain.
  • Find your fuse box
  • While keeping an eye on the test light, pull the fuses one by one. Replace the one just pulled before going to the next.
  • When the light goes out (or dims), you will have narrowed the the problem to a specific system. Check the legend on the fuse box for the offending fuse.
At this point there are too many 'What if's'. Which system has the drain will determine the next steps to be taken.

This procedure will allow you to focus in on the problem area. Let me know what you find out.

Hope this helps

Mike
