Question about 1998 Ford Escort
Everytime my wife changes gear the reves will not go down and the car sounds as if its racing.
We went to our local garage and he informed us that it could be a number of problems as detailed below.
He said the oxygen sensor needed changing, temp sensor needed changing and also the vehicle needed a afc valve. We were informed that if these parts were not sorted then the ecu unit would be no good and the emissions would be high.
We got him to do a dionostic test on the escort and he said the emissions were rated 6 when they should be no more than 3 and that the cat would be no good if the above was not sorted and it would fail the mot.
We only went to him to get the reves sorted and hes told us all the above.
My wife paid about 700 for the car and we have been quoted about 300 to 400 just to get it through mot when again all we wanted was the reves sorted out.can anyone help.
Remove and clean the idle valve control consult a haynes manual this should fix the problem!!!!

Just change the air flow control valve .also use a squeesy bottle with a dilute washing up liquid and look for an air leak on the inlet manifold ,but he could be right about the emmisions though because if your in the UK then their are a lot of dodgy arthur dailey MOT stations about trust me dodgy mots for english cars are sold over here in spain big time as its cheaper than changing the plates
