i cant seem to get it started i checked everything that u guys said to check...my friend that works on hondas said it could be the timing belt?

  • Shacool2 Dec 02, 2008

yeah I have the same problem! HEEEEELLPP!!!! Oil and battery lights come on but no engine light. It has a new battery, and I got a new starter two months ago. Last oil change was earlier this month, new fuel filter two months ago. Sounds like it wants to turn over but just won't every three or five clicks like described. Sounds like it's laughing at me! :(

yea tell me about it lol...ne ways what else would u think it could be? cuz im running out of things that could be wrong with it

  • Shacool2 Dec 06, 2008

I checked the timing belt earlier today and it isn't the problem. All the teeth are there and all things seem to be running right. Could it be the alternator? I just don't know. I can only go off what people say to check and disassemble using the nifty how to guides provided on the internet.

so i brought it to an auto shop...and with in 15 minutes of it being there they called me and knew what was up...i was getting no spark...so they put in a new distributor and now it runs great.

    GOOD LUCK with ur car

1991 honda civic stick, won't start, how do you check the timingbelt? Engine turns over but sounds like not enough compression to start.

Do you hear fuel pump turn on? Turn the key to the start, but not all the way, you should here it hum. I have a 91 hatchback and it's right under the backseat. If you hear it, it could be your computer. My car would turn, crank, fuel pump. I finally swapped it w/a friends and it started up just fine. It's still going too. Hope it helps.

If you are getting spark to the plugs, (and assuming nothing has happened to screw up the timing of the spark), the only thing that would cause the car not to start is that you are not getting fuel into the cylinders. You can check this by squirting some ether into the air intake of the engine. You can get some start spray at an auto parts store.

I do not feel like it is the starter. You say "the car turns over but does not start" The starters only function is to turn the engine over. when that happens, if you have spark at the plugs and fuel injected into the engine, it will start.

My brand new alternator wont stay charged

Check the charging relay if working. You can find it in the fuse box which is either in the engine compartment or under the dashboard on the drivers side legroom.

You are going to need a new distributor. These are such a common problem that they are available, new from any auto parts store. It's possible that you may have just a bad module or coil or pick-up, but if you just replace one of these after hours of trying to pin it down, another will fail eventually. A new distributor is not that expensive and it has all of these parts inside of it.

My '91 honda civic doesn't start

Check the battery terminals and make sure they're not loose...also check any other grounds that may be bad or broken.
