Question about 1997 Subaru Impreza

1 Answer

Randomly loses power and sometime dies

I can't figure out why but sometimes my car just suddenly loses power and then sometimes works great. I'll be driving in the city and suddenly the rpm's will drop to 1k for a few seconds. then it will regain power and drive fine. i have no idea what it is and it just turned on the check engine light.

1st thing to do is have the system tested for the code that caused the check engine light to come, you may also have a fuel pump starting to fail or many other things, the check engine light may be the key. How many wiles on the car?

Sometimes when I start my car, the guages, headlights, a/c, radio won't come on

The randomness of the power coming onto the electronics is indicated by a loose wire, you should have a shop technician check your wiring, however wiring can be very costly.

Car randomly dies while driving. Has terminal power but no throttle response.

well if there is no check engine light on you can pretty much rule out electrical. I would be looking more at fuel. That usually wont kick on the check engine. could be a fuel pump going bad

I would try replacing the ignition module located on the front of the engine where the plug wires connect. The ignition moduel is where the ignition coils them selves screw down to and a harnes plugs into.
