Have an accredited service shop to a wet and dry compression test on the engine
That determines engine condition
have the oil pressure checked using a mechanical gauge and if the pressure is below specs that indicates worn bearings overloading the oil control rings
leaks can be rear main seal or crank shaft seal at the front where the oil is blown away in the slip stream

SOURCE: Excessive Oil consumption, 2001 Isuzu Trooper, V-6, 94,000 miles

The Isuzu rep. says that it is normal for one to use a quart of oil every 750 to 1200 miles per. Isuzu motor co. I have worked for a dealer for over 15 years. I have seen a few of them come in with no oil in them because people never checked it. They thought they were good until the next oil change. Remember these vehicles have a 4.55 gear in the rear end and running 80 or faster on the highway it will be wound up tight.

If the engine oil light wont go off it might be the damage is done and you need some major engine work .

Since your light is on, take it to Autozone and get the code scanned. The light is on because the computer picked the code up. They do it for free. Now, you have a oil sensor that reads the levels. This may have became disconnected or it is not working. You can take your battery terminal off and it will reset the light. If you need anything else, please feel free to contact myself or the others. We will try to help until your problem is solved. Thanks so much for choosing FixYa.

I switched to the 15w40 diesel oil and my oil consumption dropped...

Believe it or not, it is normal for these engines to use about a quart every 2000 even when they are essentially new. Note that I said, "use", not "burn". The combination of higher compression and operating temperatures causes oil to pass through the engine. You might notice your tail pipes have a good coating on the inside. I managed to slow the process by converting to Mobil 1 0W40. I get much better performance and I only use a quart every 3500-4000.

My 2015 Isuzu Dmax 3 litre diesel auto 4x4 dual cab done 22500km is and has always used engine oil. Currently after 12000 km oil is down dipstick by 30-35mm. Total k's 22500. No towing is it normal

Its not normal to use any noticeable amount of oil between services these day's.

I would contact the dealership you purchased the vehicle from, and inform them of the oil consumption, they will have you monitor the level for a period of time.

Also, have you been using the correct grade of engine oil.

I would also check your turbo oil seals, and general check of engine for leakage.

Is the engine being filled with correct amount of oil, as some dipsticks can be out of calibration, causing overfilling and oil consumption down to correct level, something to check also.

About 2 weeks ago we filled up oil and then last weekend checked the oil was dry as a bone there are no oil leaks at all the car doesn't run hot no engine lights on it just sounds really loud rattling and...

Oil loss like that can only go one of 3 places, down the exhaust pipe, into the water jacket (unlikely), or out of the engine in a big puddle under the car. As you have guessed, the rattling and ticking noise is oil starvation, not a good thing.

If you are sure it is not merely leaking out externally, then check the coolant for signs of engine oil. It will be obvious as a dirty oily appearance. Water in the oil will show up as a milky looking deposit on the dipstick.

After that have a compression check done to see if a piston ring or valve stem seal has collapsed, and is allowing excess oil consumption. The spark plug tip will show evidence of that, being black and oily, instead of dry and light brown.

Another possibility is that a main or big end bearing has failed, and is overloading one cylinder with oil. Again it will show up on the spark plug tip. Such a failure will also be heard as a knocking noise, which varies with engine speed.

Engine suddenly started smoking through exhaust, raw diesel in exhaust and diesel in oil. isuzu trooper 1999 3.0

Hello. This is not good. Hate to say it but you will need to check for compression on all cylinders as it sounds like you may have a bad head gasket. Joe

My 2000 isuzu trooper seems to use oil a little, I've checked the antifreeze-nothing,spark plugs look fine, and no smoke out the back....I can't figure out were the oil goes... Any ideas I would appreciate...

How much is a little oil? 1 quart(US) in 5000 miles is reasonable oil consumption. If you don't have any major leaks, the oil is going out the exhaust pipe. As the engine wears the piston rings dont seal as well as they used too and the oil gets burned in the combustion process. You didnt mention how many miles you have on the vehicle, An engine with 150,000-175,000 is going to burn a little oil..

Distributor cap compatability

your caps should be fine between a 90 and 91 one thing you should also check is that the kanooder valve on a 90 is different from one on the 91 these would not be compatable they redid the duflage sensor plug that goes from the kanooder valve to the wiring harness. you might need a kanooder valve mod kit these are really cheap you can grab one from checker for about 20 bucks well worth it trust me.
