Question about 2001 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

2001 hyundai sonata missing/now won't start

I have a 2001 Hyundai Sonata 4cyl. 2.4 liter with an automatic transmission and 83,000 miles on it. Maybe a week or so ago, it stuttered, then recovered and was fine. A couple days ago it happened again, and yesterday it happened more severely and the engine died. I pulled it over and had a look, thinking I had pinched a vacuum or fuel line with my recent work (I replaced the spark plugs, air filter, one headlight, and did an oi change. Dealership flushed transmission fluid and replaced a torn CV boot). I didn't find anything that was helpful. I loosened and retightened the plugs thinking they might've been the kind with crushable washers, but that didn't help either.

The hesitation always seemed to happen while climbing a hill.

Any ideas?

Last week my 2001 sonata was stuttering only when I was at a red light. When I excelerated, it was fine. Hasn't stalled yet, but I'm afraid it will.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the Ignition coil. I brought a new ignition coil and replaced it which is very simple to do as they lie just under the engine cover. Obviously you should disconnect the negative terminal on the battery first! Disconnect the coil leads either side and replace.. it's that simple! Now if the probelm continues ( there are two coils) replace the one you didn't change with the one you did. When I reconnected the battery negative terminal all of the error lights were out!! Result.

I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, auto transmission, 4 cylinder, approx 40k miles. this winter, especially when it has been cold, when driving and coming to a stop the car will downshift hard in to 1st gear It...

There is a recall for harsh downshift in 4cyl versions of your generation Sonata. It is a simple ecu update a dealer can do and it should cost you nothing.
