1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee electrical problem

The diagram in the front of the center counsel that shows a picture of the car and gives you alerts on what is wrong is saying "coolant sensor bad" but i checked the coolant level and it is fine. It is also saying "Rear light failure" but i checked all of the lights in the rear and they are all fine. I just don't understand.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee..the diagram showing the car keeps flashing "coolant sensor bad" and "rear light failure." I've changed the coolant sensor and refilled the coolant. I also changed all the bulbs in the back. It still says "rear lamp failure" I don't know what I should try next.

Partial solution:

I had the issue with the rear light failure. I was surprised to discover that there were 2 bulbs for each rear light. One I changed the 2nd bulb on the rear lights, the alert went away.

Check the center brake light assembly. There are 3 bulbs and if one is out it will give you the bulb out warning. This is frequently missed as if the center bulb is out it is easy to overlook.

Do yourself a favor and replace all 3 when you are there as the dissassembly/assembly is not that easy on 96-98 Grands

The rear lamp failure is most likely a bulb somewhere, but there is also a sensor in the hatch area behind a panel between the hatch and spare tire that could be bad.
The "coolant sensor bad" is the sensor in the coolant resivoir that tells you when the level is low. It may be caused by the fluid sloshing around in the tank. The sensor is about $10 at autozone. Not really worth replacing if you check the fluid levels frequently or if you don't mind the annoying beeping. It doesn't have any important function, except it tells you when the resivoir level is low. Hope this helps.

Even though the lights work, there coulld be the wrong bulb in the socket.
The info display works on resistance from the bulbs.
Sometimes the info display itself is bad internally.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder. You might want to check the Ignition Off Draw (IOD) fuse in the Electrical Power Distribution center located in the black box located just in front of the coolant fill container on the left side under the hood. This is a 40 amp fuse, orange in color and is the orange fuse closest to the firewall. This fuse is used to put the jeep in storage if you don't plan to drive it for a while. Which would stop the current flow and not allow your battery to die. GOOD LUCK!
