Question about 1985 Chevrolet K2500

No power to 6.2 diesel fuel pump

My motor has been running sluggishly for a couple of weeks, then it quit. Whe you turn the key on, the fuel pump is supposed start before you turn the motor over. Nothing on the pump. no power to the pump, and no ground to the pump. I tried this with the key on, and also with someone else turning it over as I held the tester to the pump wires. I ran a live feed, and ground, both from the battery, and the pump will pump. A wiring diagram would be nice, but also does the live go to a relay, or fuse? Even so, that doesn't explain no ground. I am stumped. Lots of help would be apprciated, even a diagram.

Thanks so much

Try finding a good ground, first, if you're still not getting voltage, check the fuel pump relay under the hood.

Why will car not start from key? Just turns over until battery drained, seems too sluggish to start

Has the fuel pressure been tested? Are you sure the ignition starter switch is ok and doesn't have an open that causes a stall out when the key is released. We do not have the diesel engine in this country so repair info is limited. You need to stop guessing and consult an expert, you have replaced parts that I would never replace for this kind of issue, a total waste of money and your time.

I have a 1998 nissan turns over but will not start, what could it be?

The fuel pump may have quit on you. The only way i know how to kinda tell right away is to turn the key to ACC with no radio and no blower running in a somewhat quiet environment and listen for the fuel pump to start pumping. if you don't hear the pump then it could be time for a new one of if your lucky a new fuse for it. If you do hear it pumping then if could also be gas line blockage from whatever debris floating in your gas tank. Word of advice if it turns out to be the fuel pump quit, try to not run your vehicle on empty or below 1/8th of a tank because If the pump starts sucking up air bubbles or anything floating in the tank then it will significantly decrease the life expectancy of the fuel pump. Good luck!

Replaced motor, 1st no oil pressure to guage, but motor seems to have pressure,2nd,replaced radiator, drove 6 miles round trip town and back, flushed radiator, then started and ran motor for couple min,...

As to the oil pressure check your oil pres. sending unit for power with a circuit tester while vehicle is running replace if necessary. First check the fuse for the fuel pump if it has powere on both sides when key is on check the fp relay (when you power a relay if you listen closely or put your finger on it you can normally hear or feel it click which is the equivalent of turning on a standard light switch) if none occur replace or if you can access your fuel pump check for power with key on if it has power but does nothing the pump needs to be replaced

It's called dieseling and it's caused by the self ignition of the fuel in the cylinder because there's a lot of carbon buildup in it. You can either dismantle the engine or use a specialized fuel additive to clean it.

so, the problem is you're not getting fuel to the injectors. to check that the pump is running, simply turn the key to the on position and listen for the pump motor. have someone listen at the fuel tank. if the pump runs, the fuel lines or filter might be clogged. also, there is most likely a fuel pump relay. locate it, probably in the engine compartment in the power distribution box; and while turning the key to the on position, have someone listen for the relay to click there is also a fuel pump cut-off switch to de-energize the pump in the event of a collision. check to ensure it is not tripped. it can be reset by pushing the red button.

89 regal won,t start but after 5 or 10 min. runs great

sounds like your fuel pump is going out. One thought might be that the fuel filter is causing enough resistance to over heat the pump. I would check the fule pressure to determine a free flow of fuel.
