Question about Land Rover Discovery

1 Answer

Can anyone helpme before i go to my local rip off garage. I have just bought a 1996 landrover discovery v8i es. the car is immaculate and has been well cared for. On my way home the tempreature gauge went high so i pulled over. There was a bubbling noise comming form my expansion tank and water was trying to escape out of the cap. I took it to my local garage who advised me that theas cars have cylinder head problems. He had a quick look and said that the heads looked like they had been of very recently and work done on the car. There is no smoke and the engine sounds beautifull. My heater does not work in the car as well and i was wondering if they are linked?? He said that he would have to spend time looking at it and it it could be costly. My friend said it could be a thermostat sticking, a blocked radiator, or even just the radiator cap. the oil is fine and the wate does not appear to have oil in it it just looks a bits rusty looking not alot just like it needs cleaning. I hope someone can advise as the local garage is looking like he is rubbing his hands and being a woman i think he thinks he is getting a couple of grand out of me. thank you..

Go to a good garage and tell them to run a co2 test ,it is simple test where you take off the radiator cap start the engine , hold a vile over the cap opening if co2 is getting back to the radiator the solution in vile will change color and this is head gasket problem . if not could be thermostat or cap a good garage can test caps with pressure tester if good cange t-stat

Um,dumb question perhaps, but where is the fuel filter housed on a 1993 Landrover Discovery v8i?

Land Rover did not sell a Discovery in the USA in 1993 so I can't help you there.
Usually they are in the fuel line under the truck between the gas tank and the engine.

the easiest and in-expensive way would be to go to your local library. You should find what your looking for in the auto reference section. Or, you can buy the publications on ebay, at Auto Zone, or O'Reallies.

Problem with electronic hand brake screeching and showing an error on the display on my LR3 land rover discovery 3 , 2004 discovery 3 2.7 TDv6 HSE, its out of warranty (have done 22,000 miles) and have...

Just had this same issue with my 57 plate Discovery SE - great guy from the AA took the small plate off that sits immediately to the rear of the hanbrake button in the central console - he then hooked a wire around the cable you see in there and gave it a mighty tug. The result is that my brake is now disengaged (rather than stuck-on as before) and LR will need to cure the source of the problem under warranty. Car is automatic so can use "park" until full repair.
