Question about Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

The headlights are out (two of the four) and one has been replaced with a new one (passenter side went first - now the other one is out), but still will not work. The side turn signal on the passenger side, also. Told by a technician that just to tear it down to see what is behind the light will be VERY costly. It is "ELECTRICAL?" it seems???? Dealerships are 2 - 4 hours away. Spent over $160 at Austin dealership to put in the new light - just to be told it would not work and there was still a "Customer had concern still present?" You think?

Their is a relay pack for the lights which is behind the lights and this relay pack is operated by the controls inside the car via the fuses ,well their is on the XJ like mine.why is it costly in your local garage just to remove an headlight and check the bulbs see how the system operates and familirise ones self with it.Sounds like your local garage is run by some geneticly inbreed creeps who think that mending a jaguar car that great proud monumentous mark of quality cars made in GREAT BRITAIN by real dedicated crafted car workers instead of detroit morons ,seems to think that because you have a jag your his next meal ticket so he can take his kissing cousin out.If you are having a problem with the dealership because they cant repair your vehicle then complain to jaguar cars coventry great britain they will sort the dealer out.another tip, try the ford garage as jaguar was owned by ford and and the mondao and lincoln are the same chassis and running gear, not sure about the electrics though but my XJ6 4ltr is all ford behind the dash.Sounds like its only a few blown bulbs to me though and the indicator might only be a dodgy bulb holder that needs a clean

How do I fix headlight

You can't fix the headlight, you can only replace the assembly or change a bulb. First you must remove screws that hold side marker light and set aside. Then remove six screws that hold grill. Set aside. Now remove four 10mm bolts, two on each side of headlight assembly, and remove. Twist and remove bulb and reinstall in new assembly. Reinstall in reverse of disassembly.

My passenger side headlight went out, when I went to replace it I see water sitting in th bottom of the unit. Where is it comming from? And how do I fix it?

you cant fix it, it needs a new light. if both are yellowed and hazed over, just replace both, they are easy to get, google toyota headlights and look for the best deal.

Had to cut wires attached to female seatbelt receptacle to replace seatbelt and now dim headlight on that side(passenger side) won't work. How do I splice to get headlight to work again?

Check your ground wire going to that headlight - I have had to run a new wire in the past, just went to a good ground spot on the car and ran it to the black wire on the headlight plug, making sure you cut that wire loose from the car side of the plug.

Driver-side headlight bulb burns out every four months or so. Passenger side is fine - same bulb for a few years now.

Hi:
four months is way too soon, so you need to look things over a little closer. The entire headlight assembly could be slightly loose, and vibrating on bumps and causing the bulb to die. Next time you put a new bulb in, buy and use some dielectric grease on the contacts of the new bulb, to keep moisture out, and examine the harness plug for signs of dust, dirt or corrosion. since it takes four months to fail, it has to be a minor thing.

The headlights on the envoy are the easiest parts of the car to repair. You just pull the two tabs at the top of the headlights, screw out the bulb containers and you are good to go
