Question about 2004 GMC Envoy

2004 Envoy Headlights won't turn on

Our 04 Envoy automatic headlights will not turn on when it's dark outside. They will if we turn off the car and let it sit for a while, but not if we shut it off and turn it back on right away. this has become an issue and a safety concern, as it often happens while we are already out. Does anyone have any suggestions on why this might be happening? Even if we turn the knob to the "on" instead of "auto" they won't turn on. the fog lights and tail lights still work.

My low beam headlights won't turn on in 2004 gmc envoy

It's the headlamp relay #46. If you want to test it, swap it out with the cooling fan relay #45 and see if your headlights work. If they do you know this is the fix. Found the solution online a couple of years ago and it was spot-on. The part was $45 at autozone at the time.

Change 04 envoy bulb

Headlight Replacement (Envoy)

Lift hood, at top of each headlight assembly look for two L-shaped tabs. Pull these tabs straight up, this will release the headlight assembly. Lift assembly forward to gain access to rear of assembly. There two rubber caps, the top one is for access to the low beam and the bottom for the high beam bulbs. Remove the appropriate cap, grasp bulb socket and turn CCW to release. Unplug bulb from socket by releasing catch on side of socket, install new bulb, DO NOT touch bulb glass with fingers. Reverse steps to re-assemble.

I have a 2003 Infiniti m45 and every time I turn the headlights on the dashboard lights gets dim what's the problem?

There is nothign wrong with your car-when you turn on the headlights the car believes you are turnung them on because it is dark outside, so it automatically dims your dashboard lights for you (since it now thinks it's nighttime). Your car already has daytime running lights, so you don't need to turn your headlights on in the daytime-they come on automatically when the car is running. You can keep your dash lights dim or bright by adjusting the small black dial on the left side of the dashboard, whether headlights are on or off if you want to.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XL....My headlights were working ok when they wanted to....I could be driving down the street and they would just go off the manaul switch doesnt make them come on either usually...

Okay, lets start with the sensor, the sensor fell inside the dash which means its in a dark place which makes it think it dark out and its turning on the headlight all the time, the first thing to check is the headlight bulbs as they may have gone bad being on all the time. i would replace them anyway if you have not already. my next step even if the light are woriking now is to get the sensor out of the inside of the dash, with sensor out and back in it spot try to control the lights manually and if they dont work then switch should be replaced.

again check the bulbs first.another thing , try turning on the headlight with the switch and try to turn on the highbeam to see ifthey come on.if they do then check the bulbs and als the bulb sockets as they are pron to burning and melting the plastic causing a bad connection, this i have seen make headlight turn on and off as you are driving, the switch will also cause this until it burns out.

let reveiw. First check the bulbs. hope this is helpful.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy and the headlights will come on when they are on high beam only. They will not turn on low beam is there a solution to this problem??

I had an '04 GMC Sierrra and ran into the same problem. On it, there is a relay box under the hood on the driver's side. Pop the top off that big box and there are a bunch of relays in it. There is a diagram on the underside of the lid. One of them is for low beam headlights ( a different one for highbeams, horn, air conditioner, trailer lights,etc.). Most of them are the same model. I interchanged mine with the foglamp relay to check it. You might get familiar with them . I hit around 180K and the low beam relay went out...then I ended up changing 6 different ones in the next four months. They run about $12 each at O'Reillys or Advance.
Hope that helps

Where is the fuse for the dash lights . the light are bright with key on. Go dull when the headlights are turned on

That is normal. They go bright because during the daytime the outside light is also bright so the lights compensate for the outside brightness by making your dash lights also bright. When you turn your headlights on it assumes it is nighttime and you don't need to have the brightness to see the dash lights so it compensates for this. If you want them to be dimmer, near the light switch there is a roller button to turn your interior lights on just roll that some and it will either make the dash lights brighter or dimmer.

I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire. When you turn the headlights on, they stay on Daylight running lamps for a while and eventually come on after clicking the high beam switch a few times. Is this the...

this could be a little more simple depending on the lighting outside. quite a few GM's with DRL will turn on the dash lights and tail lights automatically when it gets so dark outside. if it happens when it's completely dark out i would check the switch itself and maybe the relay incase it is sticking
