Question about 2000 Pontiac Montana

Pontiac Montana starting problem

I am helping out a full family replace their starter on their Pontiac Montana mini-van. After replacing the old starter with a brand new after market Hitachi starter and checking relays and replacing the battery- the vehicle still won't start. Solenoid clicks when turnned on. But nothing else.
Is it pssible that I may have crossed wires on the solenoid? The starter solenoid has two possible places for the power wires to go- there are four in total... (and after taking the old one out I swear that they all came off the same studd. The smaller purple one is a given as it is the only other small wire matching up to the smaller studd.

All 4 power wires go together on the large center stud on the solenoid.
The purple wire goes on the small stud.
The purple wire supplys the trigger signal when the key is turned to the start position.Since your solenoid is clicking when the key is turned to start this is working properly.
I would check battery connections and then check power connections on solenoid again.Make sure all connections are clean and tight.

How can i deactivate the anti theft system in my 2000 pontiac montana van or put a bypass on it?

I think this has 2 small diameter white wires that send a signal to allow it to start. if you look under the dash by the steering column you should see the wires. you can try to cut the wires and join the two wires that do not go up the column together to see if this will by pass the key switch.

The starter should be where the engine and transmission bolt together.

2000 montana will not start, no cliking nothing, except the usual gage movement. battery is fully charged. history: approx 18 mo. ago the same thing happend and the dealer charged $800 for a new full...

Try inspecting the starter. Look carefully at the wires coming out of the starter. Sometimes these corrode and fall off, which will make your van impossible to start. Also try checking your fuses.
I hope this helps,
Matt

@hotmail.com@hi...i have 2002 pontiac montana mini-van...i filled up the tank above the full mark...got in ...started it up...it went up to full...then dropped down to empty and low fuel light stays...

It sounds like the fuel tank sending unit is bad. You can try pouring a can of BGK44 into the tank to see if it will clean up some of the deposits that can actually foul the sending unit. If that doesn't work the unit will have to be replaced.

Changing the starter solenoid on a 2000 Pontiac Montana

On your van the solenoid is attached to the starter. If you can get a solenoid separate (i don't know if you can) then you will need to take the starter off and remove the solenoid (2 screws holding it on) and the wires (on red and one black i believe) pay attention to which wire goes where because you don't want to reverse it on the new solenoid.
