How do I change the headlight bulb on a 2003 Mazda6

I have a 2003 mazda6 and I need to change the headlight bulb.  How do I go about getting at the bulb?  Do I come in from the back or do I have to take the whole headlight assembly out of the car?  I removed the coolant reservoir and got a good look at the back of the assembly but I sure couldn't figure out how to get at the light bulb.

I bought the car used and was hoping that I would have to drop an extra $20.00 on the manual.   I was hoping someone would be able to just tell me how it's done.

Do I have to remove the headlight assembly in order to change the lightbulb or is it possible to remove the lightbulb housing from the rear of the assembly. If the housing can be removed from the assembly, how is it done? It doesn't twist in and I don't see any snaps. I do not have the shop manual and there is no after-market manual available.

Just went to my local store - they sell the bulbs and fit them while you wait...the guy does a lot of them - he had it done in 10 minutes and charged 12 pounds including the bulb. I watched him do it - twisted the cover off - popped the bulb out and popped the new one in ...he didn't actually unbolt anything from the car...worst of all it was dark and raining...I'd suggest this route unless you have small hands or are willing to spend an hour fiddling around

This was a great help. Problem is, now I'll have to find someone with smaller hands then my meat hooks. Then I'll be golden. Thank you very much.

Changing the Main Headlight bulbs were fairly easy, Follow Solution #3 suggestions. Only exception is when you change the left headlight, you need to remove the radiator resevoir to gain an eaiser access to the headlight cover, plus it gives you more room to manuever.

There's a round cover that twists into place on the back side of the headlight assembly. It's the one farthest out (against the fender). Then the actualy bulb is held into place in the same fashion...twist and pull straight out.

Go to www.chiltonlibrary.com this site gives a comprehensive description (including pictures) on how to repair/replace almost everything on your vehicle. It also shows every recall notice ever issued by the manufacturer (including imports).

Change headlight on Mazda6 2010

I changed a headlight on my Gen1 (2003-08) Mazda6 and had to remove the bumper cover to do it. It wasn't that hard, but it required me to put the front end up on jack stands and remove the front wheels to get to all the snap-plugs in the fender well. There are also several screws on top and underneath.

If your car and headlights are off then you will not get a shock. You have to unplug the bulb to replace it anyway so there is no way for you to get shocked.
