Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta
Alarm sensors for the hood and trunk often **** out and sound the alrm for really stupid reasons, like a small gust of wind.
As for the weak battery, it`s the same as a dead battery, ie: ressets the car alarm and trips it.
Just make sure u unlock either front door twice consecutively to turn off the alarm.
U should unplug the hood and trunk alarm switches as they are pretty useless, just the doors is more than enough.

Same thing has happened to me. The locking accuators inside the doors often go, and will need to be replaced. You can find the accuator at a junk yard or order it thru an online vw parts dealer. also, try looking at the wires betweent the drivers door and the body where it comes out of the body and into the door . Being that they bend often one of the wirs may have broken in there

I would first look at broken wires in between the doors and car's frame, in the accordians. We often see this.
