You can jack on the oil pan if you use a block of wood in between to spread out the weight across the oil pan, likewise you can jack on the transmission pan with a block of wood in between.

Trying to R & R the serpentine belt on a 1999 Olds Delta 88. The belt is routed arond a motor mount. Do I have to jack the motor and disconnect it from the motor mount in order to remove and replace...

yes you do. place a floor jack under engine with a block of wood on top of jack to protect the engine, put just enough pressure on jack to steady engine. remove motor mount, then jack up engine a bit to take belt off. replace the belt then lower jack and attach the mount. on the mount only the outside bolts need to come off to raise engine. do not remove from engine side unless you are changing it or its bad, be carefull when raising engine, pick it up from a sturdy place, not the oil pan. have a good day !!

Do you have to remove motor mount to change the belt

jeffriesa97, You fail to mention what size your engine is here but I will take you through the procedure. If your belt goes over and under the motor mount then yes you will have to remove it first. The motor will have to be supported first. Place a piece of wood on a floor jack and place it under the oil pan. Raise the jack until you see the engine come up a little. Remove the engine mount. I believe they are 15MM bolts holding it in. You may have other things attached to the mount. Remove these and set aside. Check your belt tensioner to see if it returns to it's original position before you put the new one in. If it sticks then either lubricate it or replace it. Reverse the procedure for replacement. Good luck with this.

Replace serpentine belt

TO REPLACE DRIVE BELT FOR THE 2.0L AND 2.2L ENGINES ROTATE TENSIONER CLOCKWISE USING A WRENCH OR SOCKET USE 19M WRENCH FOR 2.0L ENGINE. USE SIZE 15M WRENCH ON THE 2.2L ENGINE. AND THE 3.1 ENGINE USE A 1/2 INCH BREAKER BAR. IF DRIVE BELT HARD TO GET TO YOU HAVE TO SUPPORT ENGINE WEIGHT USE A HOIST OR FLOOR JACK UNDER THE OIL PAN WITH PIECE WOOD ON JACK SADDLE.SLIGHTLY RAISE FLOOR JACK A LITTLE TO SUPPORT ENGINE TO REMOVE TOP ENGINE MOUNT TO REMOVE DRIVE BELT.DONT DONT OVER JACK ENGINE DAMAGE OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP.JUST RAISE FLOOR JACK SLIGHTLY JUST ENOUGH TO HOLD ENGINE WHEN YOU REMOVE TOP ENGINE MOUNT.

How do you change serpatin belt on 98 buick lesabre with a 3.8 liter engine..it looks like you have to take motor mount loose?

The manual has this step in it: "remove the engine mounting bracket lower nut, stud and spacer. Carefully lower the vehicle."

It never said to raise the vehicle, so I think there is an error here.
However, it is an indication that the belt needs to slip under the motor mount.

Recommend you put a floor jack under the engine, prop it up, remove the mount stud, and lower or raise the engine as needed to get the belt out.

If you don't have a floor jack, you can accomplish the same using the car jack on the regular jack point, jacking it up, and then putting some bricks and 2 by 4s under the pan. Then let the car down until the engine touches. Take the nut off the stud and raise or lower the car as needed to open a gap for the belt to pass thru.

OK? If you have more questions, please let me know.

Alternator

First you need to remove the serpintine belt or alternator belt. If it is a serpintine locate the tension pully(the one that doesn't look like it does anything) place a wrench over the pully bolt and pull while removing the belt. Most generaly all alternators have two bolts holding them in. Remove both bolts. and remove alternator on some vehicles you need to remove the top engine mounts to remove the acctual alternator. make sure you if you do this you put a jack under the bngine block. NEVER ON THE OIL PAN. After that simply remove the old alternator and replace it with the new one reinstall the serpintine belt as instructed on either the underside of your hood or where the hood latch is.

Belt routing on my Olds 98 LSS. It looks like I

on the v6- 3.1 yes you do. here is how to change it yourself, first of all, release tension on the belt tensioner. remove belt from pulleys, place a floor jack under engine on motor mount side to take off. put a piece of wood on jack to protect engine. jackup to engine with very slight pressure to hold it while removing mount. take off mount, remove old belt, put new belt on. the tensioner can be moved with a 3/8 drive in tensioner hole. after belt is on replace mount. then lower jack down. thats it!!

Replace a serpintine belt on a 1997 Buick Park Avenue

Your car requires you to removed the motor mount to replace the belt. The best way to do it is to place a piece of wood on a small jack and jack up on the engine oil pan. Then removed the motor mount and replace the belt. There is no other way to do it.
