I have 1980 Toyota SR5. Initially, the battery would decharge while I ran my headlights. Replaced battery, replaced alternator with a more powerful one. Replaced belts, filters etc. Thought everything was okay but now truck battery is decharging again when I run radio, etc. Voltage drops. what to do next?

I have a 84 Toyota forerunner and it doesn't charge, The battery on a charger goes to 12.4 and I have been told that is ok.I have changed the alternator and the system stil doesn't charge. Checked the ground from battery to chassis. It is grounded on the left inside fender. The length of the cable is about two feet. Any other wire goes through connectors. The ground on alternator goes from alternator through a cable harness. When running the voltage keeps dropping each time the truck is started. It drops a few tenths each time until it won't start.

May i please ask? is this problem related to the battery failing to start engine? ie turns slow ? or not turn over? suspect battery? changed battery still same prob ? changed alternator suspect not charging ? still prob exists ?? so you have eliminated these?and drive belt is tight ? when ?i assume you have to start? do you use jump leads? and starter works ? if so using this method advise you check the earth/ground lead from battery to where it connects to engine? and ensure clean/secure ? also there may be another earth lead from engine to chassis ? if these are not good condition as above then intermittant sarting problems occure especially from initial cold start giving suspect battery of failing to charge battery indicated by poor starter operation if you could give any info as to what happens that suspect not charge would assist on exactly is happening to your vehicle best wishes from uk

Why wont battery charge with new alternator 1993 camry toyota

Make sure battery cables are clean and tight. If it is not maintenance free, check the water level of the battery. Try to charge the battery with an external charger. If it still won't charge, replace the battery.

I have 1989 toyota tercel. The alternator will run the car's electrical system but will not charge the battery.I have a new battery and alternator.what the problem?

Check the charging rate of the car's electrical system....it should read at idling 14volts.If its not or is just reading 12volts or low means the alternator is not charging, Replace the alternator and get the old battery charged or if its more thn 17months old replace it.
Hope this helps!

How to get the alternator off

1. Write down the code of your radio if it has anti-theft device.
2. Open the engine compartment.
3. Remove the negative terminal of the battery.
4. Remove the alternator electrical plug or connection.
5.Loosen the alternator 2-holding bolts, and lock bolt from the adjuster bracket.
6. Remove the alternator belt.

Charging problem.. Wont charge battery

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!
