'95 Suzuki Sidekick 4wheel drive problem

I have a '95 Sidekick 4dr I bought in August. When I used the 4 wheel drive in September it worked. Today I engaged the 4 wheel drive but my front tires aren't turning. I reached under to see if it engaged and the front drive shaft is locked but the tires and front drive shaft don't turn. Any solutions.

Thanks Gary

I maybe able to help. Did it make any noise when you tried (grinding or groan hum exe..) or just not work. If so the first thing I would do is to change the transfer case oil, check for metal in the oil, if there is that's really not good, take to shop. If no shinny metal replace with good quality oil, if it's red use atf if black or brown use 75W 90 and some. Auto trans fluid is recommended in cold climates or adding torque modifier check with parts store or dealer prefferably for what to use unless comfortable with choice then change front differentail fluid, with recommended fluid and torque modifier for limited slip differentails 2oz or alittle more. both holes fill till you can stick your finger in an just bairly bend it 1/8 or so inches and touch fluid. don't try to fill all the way if it comes out of the whole your filling clean up mess and allow as much to drain out as possible. If that happens you may have it vent through the vent and may see/ smell what every you put in it. If your comfortable with taking the diff cover off and replacing the gasket if needed (usually is) make sure its clean, don't use water or anything water based brake clean is good but check for metal and brownish or simial colored stuff in bottom of housing and of course metal. The teeth on the ring gear and pinion( ring gear is the small one in the back, ring gear is big and will be closest to you. if you have hunks of metal in there its smoked and replacement of ring gear and pinion is required (not cheap) there is alot more to look for but that should start you off in the right direction.

1989 sidekick lost all ****** fluid while towing

Is this a 4 wheel drive or a two wheel drive? I am assuming automatic transmission. If a 2 wheel drive automatic, it isn't designed to be towed four down. READ the owners manual. It needs to be towed on a dolly... backwards! If a 4 wheel drive, it most likely the transfer case wasn't in neutral. Also, read the manual.

Just bought a 1989 suzuki sidekick and the 4 wheel drive does not work. what are common problems with that? or what should i look for to figure out the problem.

Assuming that the front prop shaft turns when you put it in 4WD, then I would start by checking the locking hub mechanisms. These should be regularly serviced and greased, but seldom are, and so rust builds up and locks it engaged or disengaged. There is only a fairly weak spring that makes everything work, so not a lot of anything is needed to bind it up. Be very careful with the spring as you can't buy it new on its own.

95 chevy blazer 4wheel drive problem

I now these trucks pretty well, I own 2, a 2000 two door and a 95 4 door and before them I owned a 88 and an 87, so look I suggest you use 4 hi but in low geer(1st geer) and just let it grab by itself, cause I find first thing it's hard getting into 4 low cause you must be in neutral, and I usually engage it with only the ignition on without actually running the truck to make sure it actually engages, we get a lot of snow up here so I'm letting experience speak for itself, hope it helps...

goodluck...
