Question about 2003 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

Window opens on strarting car

Rear passenger power window comes half way down when the car is started. I get a little resistance at first trying to get it to go back up. Once I get it up, it stays. Then it happens again the next time I start the car.

I have had a similar problem, but a variation to yours. I have a 2003 Altima 3.5 and I have had both my back windows go down (while the car was OFF) when I clicked my factory car alarm. I have never gotten it looked at since it has only happened twice since I owned the vehicle, but it certainly gave me pause. Panic as well for electical problems are a costly issue.

Power Window System Controls (RPO A31/AN3/DL3)
The power window system will operate anytime the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) system is active or when the ignition switch is in the ACCY or ON position.
The driver master control switches are integrated into the DDS. When a power window switch is activated in the up or down positions the DDS supplies power and ground to the window motor control circuits to drive the window motor in the required direction. Prior to activating a power window motor the DDS will supply the control circuit with a low current bias voltage in order to determine that a short to ground condition does not exist and during window motor operation the DDS continues to monitor the motor current to verify proper window motor operation.
The DDS controls the passenger window through a GMLAN message to the PDS. When a power window switch is activated in the up or down positions the PDS supplies power and ground to the window motor control circuits to drive the window motor in the required direction. Prior to activating a power window motor the PDS will supply the control circuit with a low current bias voltage in order to determine that a short to ground condition does not exist, and during window motor operation the PDS continues to monitor the motor current to verify proper window motor operation. Need help with power window issues.

I'm thinking this is a broken wire issue to the rear. Pull the switches out in the rear and check for good powers and grounds. As far as the slow window operation.. that is just a window motor that is near its end.

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The power window system will operate any time the ignition is the ACC or RUN position. The power window system will also operate whenever the body control module (BCM) is in retained accessory power (RAP) mode. The driver power window switch contains individual window switches for each of power windows. All windows may be controlled up and down from the driver power window switch. The individual passenger power window switches will only control the up and down operation of their respective power window.
Each power window contains a reversible power window motor. The direction the window travels is dependent upon the polarity of the supply voltage. By reversing polarity of the supply voltage the window motor will move up or down. Each power window motor is internally circuit breaker protected.
Battery voltage is supplied to the power window switch through the accessory voltage supply circuit. The power window switch also receives a constant ground source. The power window motor control circuits are connected to ground through the normally closed up and down contacts of the power window switch. When the power switch is placed in the down position, the power window motor down control circuit is switched to 12 volts and is applied to the down side of the power window motor. Since the other side of the power motor is connected to ground through the normally closed contacts of the up switch, the window travels down. By placing the power window switch in the up position, the polarity of the power window motor is reversed and the window travels up.

Rear passenger window goes down but not up in my 95 jeep grand cherokee

pulling the window up could free it from it's mount, then you will be in trouble.
your going to have to take the door panel off and try and operate from inside. your going to have to remove it to fix the mechanism anyway.

Passenger side window dont go fully up

Hi.
Sounds like the "anti-pinch" mechanism is coming into action on the drivers side.
If the window encounters any resistance when closing it will stop.
Check the window seal for damage and correct fitment, make sure there is nothing obstructing the glass. If you are OK with the seal and channels at either side and the window is going up an down "square", try some lubricant in the channels either side with the window in the down position and operate a few times.

Passenger side. The motor for the window must have been disconnected from battery voltage at some time and it has lost its reference points. That is, where to start and stop.
Nudge the window near to the top, but not closed, then close the window holding the switch down for at least 5 seconds. Then open the window and hold the switch down as before.
You may have to do this more than once.

There should be a section in your owners manual covering this procedure.

I don't think the two problems are connected physically.

Have same problem passenger side window goes up, feels resistance, rolls down half way.  Had been able to hit door on driver side to get window to go up but now it just stays down.  Agree with gspotlight, hate this!  So not impressed by Infiniti.    Having the windows do this is as good as leaving me stranded.
