Question about 1998 Ford Explorer
How many miles? this sounds like a sticky valve body or a sticking shift solenoid, this assumes the trans is full? check the fluid, is it very dark or smell like bacon, then the fluid is worn out, if you are over 60,000 have the fluid and filter should be changed, sometimes this will cure the kind of problem you have, also a transmission code may be in the module, have Kragen auto run a test to see if there is a code, it is free
