Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

Oil light/Beeping I was just driving my 1996 Jetta Trek for about 20 minutes at lunch when it began beeping at me and I looked down and the oil light was on. Luckily, I was close to me workplace and parked the car. I waited for about 25 minutes, then checked the oil. It was down half way. I called over to Keith's VW Autoparts, since Keith has worked on this car three times since August. The last time he changed the fuel pump after I broke down on the side of the road. I was concerned that there was a large oil leak, since my husband had noticed the car leaking oil for a while and had added a little oil a couple of weeks ago (5W 30). Keith said it sounded like we had thin oil and to add some 20W 50. Is this correct? Any thoughts?

Why i hear constant beeping in my 2012 Jetta ?

Beeping with no lights on normally means a dis-connected wire to the oil pressure sender. Check the connection to the oil pressure sender and the wire too for internal damage.

Oil Light came on beeping, then stopped, oil level ok, what can this be. I recently had my head Gasket replaced, could this have anything to do with this. 1995 Jetta CSX

The beep is an error message not necessarily oil. Check connections to all senders by the engine i.e. water and the 2 oils. Check coolant level as well.

My oil light keeps beeping while I'm driving, what does that mean?

Oil level is low. Have it filled up right away.
Then have it checked by a mechanic soon after to see if you have leaks in the system.

Oil light comes on and beeps

Changing oil can't hurt. When was the last time you had it changes? How many miles on that engine?Changing approximately ever 3,000 miles is common practice. The engine oil light and the automatic transmission are two seperate problems.     Engine oil light come on because the sensor reads a low oil preasure. If the engine is not worn then the light can be caused by the sensor getting cloged up (from dirty oil ) and not reading the preasure correctly.

Oil ligth

It can be either electrical short or mechanical trouble.  Have the oil pressure test done on the car at two different sites - one in the engine block near the valve cover and another in the top of oil filter housing.  If the pressure is in the normal range, then it's electrical short.  If it isn't in the normal range, it is either something is blocking the oil from circulating or needs bearing replacement.

A quick (but not accurate) test would be to have the car running and check the oil level.  If the oil level remains constant, then the oil might not be circulating (which is why manuals often say check the oil when the engine is not running).  Be careful not to drive it if it looks like that the oil isn't circulating because it could lead to serious damage (in other words, engine rebuilding with bearing replacement).
