It sounds like it may have air in the system there should be a bleeder valve for the coolant also if it ran hot you may have a possible head gaskt problem i would try bleeding the air out of the coolant system and if problem is still there you can buy a kit to check the head gasket it hooks to the coolant system and you pour a liquid in it and if it turns from blue to yellow it has a head gasket problem

find the bleed valve on coolant system and burp it. make sure you are using a good 50/50 mix of coolant.
maybe run a coolant system cleaner . maybe a clog?
if worst come to worst blow head gasket

I have a 2003 grand prix and it has been leaking water and running hot. i add water everyday and it runs fine. however now it is whining a little. is this the water pump?

It could be the water pump, but it could be water getting on the pulley's and belt causing the whining. Do you know where about the water is leaking. It could be numerous things but most often I see is the coolant cap is bad or the radiator has a small crack. Have the system pressure checked and it will force the water out at the leak.

96 grand prix se engine problems

Your problem may be a faulty (shorted) ignition coil housing assembly (the white plastic cover housing the coils its bolted to the aluminum cover) change that along with the spark plug boots ( the boots are optional but I recommend it) that should get your Grand Prix running smooth. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help

1. My grand prix gtp has problems with leaking on the passenger side. I cannot locate the leak. 2. My engine runs too hot when ideling. I changed the thermostat but this did not help. I need your assi

Make sure your cooling fans are coming on when the temp heats up. Are you talking about a leak inside the car or outside? Inside is usaully a drain tube for the A/C stopped up. Outside, look for a water pump or intake gasket.

Are you sure you put the thermostat in the right direction? The 195 degree copper bulb shold be on the bottom side. If it is a stock one.
