a relearn of the key may help and is done with the ebrake up to keep the day time running lights off . put key in the ignition and turn it to the on position right before crank for 10sec. turn it off for 10 sec. then turn it back on for 10 mins. repeat two more times back off for 10 sec.and then back on for 10 mins. it iscruishle you try to keep with in the times or very close. 10 seconds and 10 minutes three times and that will relearn the key.

this will work for passlock 2 systems and newer.

Valet Key Doesn't Start Engine

Sounds like the chip in the key is not allowing the security system to allow the car to start. You may need a new key from the dealer.

My 2004 cavalier will not turn over without excessive pumping of the gas pedal. Battery, starter and everything else seems to be fine. Is it the pump or something else?

Try this next time you start it. Turn the key to the run position, do not start the engine. Wait 3-5 seconds and turn the key off. Turn the key right back to the on position and wait for 3-5 seconds. Turn the key off. Repeat the above one more time. Now try to start. If it starts right up you have a fuel supply problem. Either the fuel pump is bleeding off or the fuel pressure regulator is leaking. Pumping the pedal is doing nothing besides buying time for the fuel system to pressurize. Post an engine size and I'll help you locate the fuel pressure regulator. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

How much fuel pressure is needed? I can not hear the pump but when I crank the engine fuel comes out of fuel rail. Car starts and dies right away

30-40 psi. th epump should run for 2 seconds when turning the key on, then run when engine is cranking and/or running.

How to rekey a pontiac sunfire 2004

Im assuming you are refering to the anti theft security key relearn process.

1. Perform a security system relearn.
2. Let the vehicle sit for more than 10 minutes with the key off.
3. Attempt to start the engine, leave the key in the run position monitoring the security system indicator.
4. After 10 minutes, the security indicator will change state.
5. Turn the key off and wait 10 seconds.
6. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
7. After the second 10 minute timer has expired, turn the key off for 10 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
9. After the 3rd 10 minute timer has expired, shut the key off for 10 seconds.
10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.

If that doesnt work, look into this link http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.
If this doesnt work, you may have a failure in your system. If the security light is on, and the reprogram doesnt work, you might want to look into bypassing that antitheft system.

Rx8 car has trouble starting you need to step on the gas 7-10 times for the car to start

The RX8 has always been a bit problematic at starting, at least until Mazda started fitted uprated starters (~2006). The standard, weak starter motor spins the engine quite slowly, causing problems getting compression to start the engine.

There's various things to try...

DON'T pump the gas whilst starting - foot OFF the accelarator (might be beneficial to depress the clutch just to reduce the loading on the starter motor). Check all the RX8 owners' forums - standard advice.

DO use a confident turn of the key - keep cranking until it catches (but not for more than 10 seconds - in which case leave for 10 seconds before trying again) - don't just crank for a second or two, then retry. That's as per owner's manual.

DO ensure that you leave the engine to warm up ALWAYS before shutting off - to avoid fuel being left in the rotor - that affects compression badly if left any period of time, resulting in very poor starting (risk of flooding).

If non of the above helps, get a hot-engine compression check to ensure that the engine isn't shot. If the engine is okay, then consider getting an uprated starter motor, or 3rd-party replacement. Many 2004/2005s have had their starters replaced (I considered mine, although I've had no problem over winter :)
