You look under the car and measure the frame structure for square, computers make it easier they are not a must, simple rules apply, if the car is no longer square or the fram is badly damaged in load carring area's like the suspension then the car is junk.

sounds like a hard hit ur problems can be an accumulation of one or more of the following bent rim --,bent and or broken hub,-- spindle bent or broken, shock, strut bent,broken--unibody [frame]bent ---u will have to remove wheel and look at the parts and see which is damaged also open trunk and look at the floor for bends and wrinkles also look at rear from back and look at the body for straightness unless u have a straightener for the unibody to fix body and or frame should be done by shop that is trained in repairs r the parts which ever part or parts need to be replaced they are all bolt in only worry would be replacing the strut if ur chevy came with that option most had a shock

My wife hit a curb in her 99 Subaru legacy GT. Now the rear tire is sloped like this /XXXX/ Took it to a repair shop - they said they couldn't find any bent components - yet the tire is wearing on the...

In my experience as an alignment tech at Sears Roebuck & Co., I found that angles can most definitely be changed by hitting a curb or getting into a car accident.

Looking at it with the naked eye doesn't always show how the parts were bent.

If the tires are wearing on the outside, then the camber and possible toe was affected by the accident.

Have the car aligned at a reputable shop like Sears Auto Center or Firestone or Goodyear, and you'll get the same answer.

Ask for a printout of the angles before and after the repair service has been performed.

If the lower control arm was bent, then have it replaced, or have the angles adjusted. A good alignment shop will replace the bent parts, and adjust the adjustable angles for you to bring it back to factory specifications.

A Subaru Legacy GT would be a unibody car, so a body shop that specializes in unibody collision can be a good place to go as well. They are used to rebuilding wrecks from the ground up in order to bring the entire car back to specifications.

One may have to bounce between the body shop and if they don't have the alignment machines, a name brand company like Sears or Firestone or Goodyear that has the computerized alignment machine for doing the final angle adjustments.

I was told my alero does not have a frame, that it is a unibody. Is that true? My car was recently parked and hit. It seems to have suffered more body damage than anything. It actually started and drove....

Who told you this information? Have you got down on the ground and taken a look to see if you have a frame?

I believe you got real information ... It is important for you to know the difference - please look and assure yourself. To know the difference you should look under some larger Fords and GM products to see what a frame looks like ...If you can look under a pickup truck - I am sure you will be able to see a frame.

When you car was hit, there is a possibility the entire car was "bent" out of alignment. It may continue to run for years. If it is bent, it may be difficult to get a good wheel alignment. Parts may not close or open easily. It may not be worth the cost of repair if it is bent badly (you will probably not be able to determine this by just looking at the vehicle. Only a body shop can determine this.)

So, my friend, it depends. What do you want to do with this car? You drive it to work and back? Is it a beater you use? Are you a Salesman who depends on your car for your livelyhood? You are active in the dating scene and need a pimped ride?

It all depends on what you do ... and how badly damaged the car is and your financial situation as to what you should do with this 6 or 7 year old car.

I dented my quarter panel can it be replaced easily

unfortunately, the quarter panel is part of the unibody. if the dent is not too severe, have it repaired at a body shop. if it is larger damage, a body shop can cut and weld a patch. best thing to do is drop by a body shop and have it looked at it.

Guidance on post collision repairs

if the wheel got pushed in and if the body is pretty damaged up than usually the unibody frame is going to be bent so more than likely they will total it
