Clicking noise in driver's side window

After the car is turned off, the driver's side window switch starts clicking until the switch is pushed up. One time before, it ran the battery down. I thought it was the alternator. I got a new alternator and the mechanic took a chip out of the computer in the backseat labeled B. Without the chip the windows don't function and the radio doesn't work, but the car hasn't lost battery power since. I tried putting a new B part in place of the old one, but the window still clicks. I am now driving with no window power and no radio because I'm afraid of running the battery down. Is this a problem in the car's electrical system or just in the window?

Your master switch is stuck in the running position and need to be replaced. Very simple to do. The reason your battery is running down is the switch is constantly activated and draining the system. Once you replace the switch everything will be good

I would be very suspicious of the drivers master swich. If the window works fine on the other side it's an easy assumption that the window motor and regulator are operative. The switches are usually fairly inexpensive (less then 100.00 ) and easy to install

SOURCE: Car will not turn over

The most common problem would be a bad starter. The clicking sound is not always heard in a bad starter. The mentioning of no attempt to turn over shows that the process stopped at start (bad starter) Check the positive cable on the starter for corrosion. Otherwise, you will have to replace the starter. The problem is intermittent, stay aware It might start 2 or 3 times then out of nowhere. it will start give you problems. Avoid the headache, replace the starter.

SOURCE: 2001 olds aurora 4dr electric windows down wont go up

If you handy, you most likely can repair this yourself. I have had this happen on two of my Auroras. The window regulators have a nylon part that retains the cable assembly. This part gets brittle as the car ages (really under designed) and the cable end pulls through it.

I have been able to modify the retainer by removing the nylon cover and slicing a little notch to hold the end of the cable. Need a picture here to really show how it's done. In any case, a couple of hour labor and it's fixed for free.

SOURCE: 1996 Olds cierra, drivers power window doesn't

these cars a famous for bad switches but first make sure wires are connected good at the switch on drivers door, then look at the wiring coming into the driver door this wiring sometimes breaks a wire or two. this wiring is located in the center of the door where the hinges are, there a rubber boot covering them pop boot out one side at a time and slide back as far as it will go and check wires closely for any split in half then do the same othe the other end of the boot.

I have a 2000 gmc 1500. The switch on the passenger side door does not operate the window, up or down. Neither does the drivers side. But you can hear the relay click in the switch. This has been an on...

.
The passenger side is powered thru the driver's switch, so I would start with checking for power and ground at the driver's switch.
Could be the master switch or a problem in the harness between the driver's door and the cab. There may also be a relay for the windows in the engine compartment.

2004 chevy malibu - all four power windows do not work?

We do not have access to any data, such as wiring diagrams

Windows usually only have a fuse & a circuit breaker

Since you have lost 3 or 4 at once, I would guess you do have
a bad master window switch.

The clicking on the driver side, could be another issue, such as
a broken window regulator

Passenger door window switch

I can only help by telling you to check voltage and ground circuits. You check voltage by using a test lite, see the fuse in diagram, not only check the fuse, check the fuse circuit for voltage.
To check ground, you can still use the test lite, one end comes from voltage, the other end you touch to ground wire, the actual wire not the insulation, if the lite comes on, at least you know the ground is good enough to turn on the lite.
You can see voltage wire color coming from fuse. The ground wire not in the picture, black with yellow tracer.
on the hinge side of driver door is usually a wiring harness going into the driver door, probably has a protective covering, move cover back far enough to find the wire colors you want to check.
You open/shut driver door so much, sometimes those wires may break?

i had the same problem with my car...it was the motor starting to wear out---it would be easiest to get one from a pick and pull or a recycling lot and just switch them out...in the meantime, pull up on the window as you press the lift button and it should be able to get all the way up until you can remedy it....and also check to make sure the rubber seal-like liner that lines the bottom of the window along the door isn't causing a heavy amount of friction

Try inspecting the wiring harness that runs from the car body to the door. Most common issues are wiring breaks in this section due to constant open and closing of doors.

You wouldn't have a blown fuse if you can hear the relay

Have you not checked the fuses before asking a question?

Relays don't fail a lot & you hear what may be a relay,
although maybe not for the window circuit.

How would someone one the internet know what your
problem was, without at least being next to your truck?

I would say you have a bad switch,as that is what is used
the most. If not then the motor or a jammed window regulator.
