Chevy cavalier 1997 wiper motor

I have a 97 cavalier that the wiper motor has stopped on - is there a fuse specifically for the wipers and if that is not it where is the wiper motor located - under the dash or up in the engine compartment

It could be a fuse problem. The fuse box is located on the left side of the dash. It can be found with the door open and looking at the end of the dash. There is a small cover that when removed has a chart of what all the fuses go too. If the fuses proves to be good, the motor can be found under the hood (sort of).

To get to the wiper motor you will need to remove the wiper arms and then you will need to remove the black vent cover to get at it. It is only held in by five black panel clips. Once you have removed the clips and removed the wiper arms and the washer lines, lift up the cover and slide it out. Note: it comes out much easier than it goes back in. With the cover off, the wiper motor will be visible on the drives side of the car. Remove three screws (10 mm) and th entire assembly comes out. flip it over to see and depress the clip that holds the wiring on. You should be able to take it out and put it back in about 30 minutes. Try to do it on a warm day so that when you are reassembling it, you do not tear up the rubber seal around the windshield. I got the entire unit from my local junk yard for 30 bucks.

One more thing to consider as a possible problem is the wiper joystick in the car.

Hopefully it is only your fuse.

Check first the fuse.
the fuse box might be located just above the left foot pedal under the steering wheel!

I have a chevy suburban 97 the wiper motor stop working when a hit it start working then stop again
It needs a new contact circuit board, it's held onto the wiper motor assembly by 3 torx type screws. It has the brushes built into it. You can get one from any autoparts store.

Sounds like the windshield wiper motor needs to be replaced. The gear inside may be stripped so you'll hear it running but it won't do anything. I've had that happen with the rear wiper motor. Hope that helps.

1997 cavalier wipers will not go down all the way to the resting stop they remain up around 2 to 3"
first check the fuse for the wipers, and if that's good then i suggest seeing if you could find a used wiper motor to replace it.

My Chevy was having troubles with the wipers and had to put a large zip tie around the motor and wiring connection. The post were worn down just enough for it to lose contact. The Zip Tie holds tension on it.
