Won't start when hot

My 1988 Cavalier 4cyl. automatic, starts fine when engine is cold, but will not restart after its hot. Already changed plugs, wires, and fuel filter. Any ideas?

Mine starts when it is cold, starts when it is hot, like right after you shut it down, but let it sit for ten minutes, like go in a store and come back out, and it won't start. It will start but then shuts right back down. Eventually I can get it to run but it is getting worse. Changed ECM, IAC, and looked over all hoses and connections, no codes. Mine is the 4 cyl 2.0 with the distributorless ignition. I am now thinking of changing the ignition control module. As I have had different problems with this before.

97 cavalier starts and runs ok from a cold start after a few minutes of warm up it starts to run rough and miss. If i try to drive it it will start out ok but won't shift automaticly but shifts fine m

Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store

tdc is usually set at 8 degrees BTDC for an automatic and 4 BTDC for a manual transmission. This may help. Does the engine run rough at start up being set at 0TDC?

Have a 93 Thunderbird that idles roughly for about 90 seconds after being restarted at full operating temp.Never exibits problem from cold start.MAF sensor was replaced as possible suspect but did not...

Probably a head gasket. Water / antifreeze seeping into the cyllinder when it's hot/pressured up, and the plug won't fire until the water is blown out the exhaust, then it runs fine. Next time you hot start it, and it's running poorly, see if there is any white smoke coming out the exhaust.
