SOURCE: Testing a crank position sensor on a 1997 astro

If you don't have the van, it will be very difficult to test the Camshaft Position Sensor. Most reliable tests involve cranking the engine with the sensor installed and testing the sensor's output ranges. Most CPS's are magnetic and therefore testable conditions will be most difficult to achieve outside of the vehicle.

However, if you use a voltmeter, you can test if there is any resistance between terminals 2 and 3 (on a three terminal CPS). If the resistance is zero, this will only tell you that it is probably dead, but will not test if it has any other faults.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 98 chevy cavalier cranks but wont start changed

try to start the car, than the anti theift would shut the car off. you wait ten min with the key on, until you see the anti theift flash or disapear. than turn key to off position and try to start it. this will reprogram the computer.. Good luck.

you can also try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes

Check for the presence of voltage to the coils and the ignition control module. The ignition switch may not be supplying power in the crank position.

crank position sensor. If the car will start for one second then die then the crank position sensor is suspect.

I have a 1997 chevy malibu and it one day suddenly stopped running going down the road. It would not start for a few minutes and then ( when cooled down I assume) started again but repeats this process...

Two things a fuel pump or a crank shaft position sensor. This can be tested when i happens. If its a crank shaft there should be a dtc for it.. bst of luck!!!

My 1997 chevy cavalier wont start.its getting spark and fuel.but wont fire it has a 2.2 ecotec.

Sounds like cam belt has snapped. If it broke while starting, could be cheap fix...new belt. Worst case: cylinder head off for overhaul...bent valves / pistons replaced.
