Look above the clutch cable the is a rubber boot, abot 8-10 inches long. If u notice on either end of this boot are rubber prongs, or ears or whatever u wanna call em. Compress the cable by hand trying to bring these rubber ears as close to each other as possible. Once this is done, use a wire and wrap the wire around both ears as this will prevent the cable from decompressing. Might have to compress it by the pedal itself, but should be able to do it by hand. When u wrap the wire, do it in a figure 8 fashion because u have to get all 4 rubber ears otherwise the cable will decompress on one side.

Clutch repair 2005 VW Chico

You need to empty the engine from all fluids, tehn remove air filter and other parts, mount your Golf on a bridge and remove the clutch pressure plate assembly mounted on a side of the engine.

You will need special tools to align and mount the new pressure plate, and you will need to follow a procedure to reinstall the clutch without removing the transaxle.

Replacing the clutch is not an easy task for a beginner, if you do it yourself, get the haynes manual with the complete illustrated procedure.

After replacing you will have to adjust the clutch. See CLUTCH REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES.

From what I am gathering. the pedal and cable assemblys are ok. then it is time to tear into the clutch its self. Sounds like the throwout bearing is bad.

The cluch petal on my 1993 VW golf wount spring back up

If it is a hydraulic clutch system,,then you have a failure of the hydraulic clutch system, if its a cable,,then either the cable has snapped inside the harness or at either end,,or has become disconnected at the clutch release arm.

good point but even if it is the cable one its automatic, hydraulic is non adjustable.if it is the cable operated one the clutch is mounted to the back of the flywheel, nothing difficult but you will need the round alignment tool,if its hydraulic it could have a dualmass flywheel which it is advisable to change thats a straight forward job to do is it a 1j chassis build 7th and 8th digit of the vin number
