I have the same problem, but it seems to happen sporadically. It happened the first time when I turned on my car and I was still sitting in my garage. It happened again while I was at a stoplight. It happened the third timewhile I was driving.

MY 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited has a similar problem when driving in daylight - lights off.

    It seems completely random.

Could be a bad light switch or relay, but I'd check dash and body grounding first. On every Jeep I've ever owned, I run a direct ground to everything before I even drive it. To do this, Attach a 12ga or larger wire to the battery ground connector. Run that wire around the firewall side of the engine bay, removing insulation at several points and attaching the exposed wire to the firewall, (using short, self-tapping screws) both fenders and ground points for the computer. I also attach one additional leg which runs through the firewall (careful not to drill through anything important) and attaches to the metal frame of the dashboard. I also add a second ground wire directly to the engine block, eliminating any possibility of a poor ground anywhere. It sounds like a big job but it's not, and doing this precludes many frustrating and unnecessary problems down the road!

My jeep grand cherokee 96 v8 will start just for a few seconds and shut down and the headlights flash on and off after it die

I would call a dealer because usually when there's flashing lights involved it's a code. If it runs for a few seconds then dies it could be a plugged fuel pump or plugged line. The pump is able to pull enough fuel to let it run for a short time but then runs out. Hope it helps.

Had a similar problem with my 01. It was the turn signal toggle. I replaced it with one that I got from a junk yard for about $45. It was really simple to replace, just pop off the collar around the steering wheel and the toggle is held in but 2 screws and a connector. Hope this helps.

1997 jeep cherokee headlights quit working at the same time and will not come back on.

check the position of the automatic headlights switch. If it is placed in the auto position and the road becomes lit then the lights will go off automatically. Before condemning the switch try placing in it on the other positions. If the switch works fine, try checking the headlights relay, there are two relays (one is for the automatic headlights)

1997 Jeep Limited-Sometimes all the lights start flashing off/on.

Try unhooking the daylight switch. I had the same problem with a thunderbird. I unhooked the switch, it kept the battery charged and I installed a new switch ... no more problem. Also check and see if one of your headlights are out or very dim. My 02 cavalier did the same thing because of a bad headlight. These are just some places to look at .... good luck.
