Catalytic converter


The exhaust downpipe is glowing red with heat?
To be honest, that may be fuel-air /and or cylinder head problem. A downpipe gets very hot, yes, but they don't glow red.

A faulty oxygen sensor can cause the catalytic converter to overheat - with disastrous results.

If you're not sure what you're doing don't mess around with things. get somebody who knows what they are doing to look at your car and give you an opinion

Exhaust glows red hot


That means you are sending raw fuel into the exhaust, likely due to severe misfire. That will destroy the Catalyst in short order too.

to much fuel into the exhaust manifold your converter could be causing a restriction have you lost power is your check engine lite on is this an older car with a smog pump sometimes with a smog pump it will push the unused fuel thru the manifold an burn off causing the manifolds to glow

more times than not it's going to be the o2 sensor if your smelling sulfur. you should also notice a significant drop in fuel mileage as o2 sensors tend to send wrong messages and you use way more fuel

2001 ford Taurus v6 exhaust manifold glowing red


If you dont have the proper spark due to a bad coil pack you will not get all the gas burned properly and your manifold will glow red.I would start with the coil pack.!
