Question about 1992 Suzuki Sidekick
I have owned my sidekick for about two years now and about a year ago it started to lose power just briefly. Well the problem has progressed to the point that now when I am on the highway you can feel it losing power, so I shift down and pin the gas pedal to the floor. Even with it pinned the truck has very little power. It will do this for a few km, then all of a sudden the engine revs up again, I shift up and away we go. When it is having its "issues" and the pedal is pinned, I can smell gas quite strongly. I can also hear the enging making this kind of "putt putt" noise. If it does this when I am just at lower speeds or the truck is just idling it will stall and then it takes about 5 minutes to get it started again. The truck has been to a mechanic numerous times and when they have it the thing runs perfectly (of course). This was a while back though, and lately then engine just seems to be running a lot rougher than it did before.
Also of note: the engine revs up and down up and down continuously after I have had it running for about 10 minutes. Not sure if that is related. It also jerks really hard when I am letting my foot off of the gas pedal, even just when I let it off a bit. Decelerating is very rough. You mostly notice this when the truck is at lower speeds.
It sounds like the idle speed actuator is part of the issue. I would also have the exaust inspected for a blocked catalytic converter.
