1998 Dodge Grand Caravan problems.........

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. Whenever the ABS warning light comes on, there seems to be some sort of short that causes the rest of the instrument panel to die. No illumination, no gages working. When the ABS warning light goes back off, the instrument panel works again. Any suggestions?
Also, Ieft my interior lights on one night and my battery went dead. I was able to drive it a short distance after getting a jump, and the Airbag light kept coming on. After I got a new battery, my Airbag light came on and won't go off.
My check engine light continues to come on periodically, and stay on for a couple of weeks at a time. I have done oil changes when I should, but this continues to happen. Can you help me?
Thanks in advance,
Laura

just wanting to get a few ideas, I have checked the fuses also. I am plannning on taking to get diagnosed, but dealer wants $165.00 to diagnose. I am disabled and can't really afford that. Looking for cheaper way.
    Thanks

1st problem: Does this happen after you have been driving after a while because you might have a short that occurs when the engine and the brake/tires gets warm causing more electricity than need to flow to the ABS button on the instrument panel and making it go into auto shutdown so it will not catch fire. You will need to get both the ABS and the short checked by a mechanic and to get them fixed.
2nd problem: Do you have an option that gives you the ability to turn the airbags on and off. If so, try turning it off, Letting your car sit overnight, and turn it back on (if you had it on in the first place or if you want it on) and see if that works. If that does not work, or you do not have that option, you should be able to get the code to be reset by the mechanic when you get the other problem checked.
3rd problem: When you take it to the shop to get the other problems checked, they can find out what is the matter with your engine and tell you. If possible, you could get it fixed while you are there.

Try using the repair service listing on the side ----->>> to see if you can find a shop closer to you and cheaper for your things to get diagnosed.

When ABS warning light comes on the instrument panel die.
Sure can be caused by a short, but the most likely is that the main computer module, that is connected to ABS and to the instrument panel is faulty, and probably must be replaced.
Go to the nearest garage , and have a scan test done on your car computer module.

You have more than one problem going on here, the instrument problem is most likely the BODY CONTROL MODULE has a problem, only the dealer has the proper test equip to diagnose the BCM.

The airbag diagnostic module will have to be cleared, this again is a dealer service issue, after it is cleared the system will need to be tested to see if a permanent fault is present, but most liekly the issue is related to the battery being run dead.

Now to the check engine light, the light comes on because a fault has occured in one of the sub systems of the emission control system, this is controlled by the powertrain control module, the reason the light goes out is that the fault clears itself, most likey this is the O2 sensors causing this to happen, take the Van to any auto parts store like Kragen auto and they can test the system for the code that is set in the computers memory when the light is on, it is free.

I wish you would reconsider the proposed fixes, these are the same the dealer will want to do, I think the other experts who answered are incorrect to a great degree, there explanations are vague, I am a dealer technician with 30 years field experience

I have a 2009 dodge grand caravan the warning lights flash (all of them) while driving it and the drivers side window switch won't roll down the front windows wipers come on whenever any help on this?

Sounds like you have a bad body control module. Also know as a BCM. It control every electric system that has to do with the inside of the vehicle. Like the radio, window, A/C and Cluster , ABS systems. Start by looking at that 1st.

How to get the abs light off

The ABS light only comes on and stays on when a problem like a failed part exists in the ABS system, the ABS control module senses this problem and it disables the ABS brakes and turns on the dash warning light, so right now you have regular brakes, no ABS. So what needs to be done? You must have the ABS control module scanned by the dealer to see what ABS fault codes are in its memory, then a trained technician will perform the necessary diagnostics and repair the system.

I had the same problem. Abs light would come on and I would lose all dash instruments. Hit a bump on the road and abs light would go off and dash would come back on. What I did to fix problem, lol I slaped the dash just to the right of instrument panel and it all came back to life. There seems to be a short there, and I slaped it back 3 times in a week and now for the last month it has stayed on.
