Question about 2000 Pontiac Sunfire

Throttle position sensor

I have a 2000 pontiac sunfire with a 2.4 and it idles really high sounds like it may be a tps. I do not have a book on this car could you tell me where it is on the motor? and is it easy to get off than back on again. thanks

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere on the engine. If the tps was bad, it would set a code and the check engine light would be on. Also, check your air tube that goes to your throttle body - make sure the hoses are connected tight and the tps is on the throttle body down on the front of your engine where the hose runs down to it. It's not really that hard to get the throttle body off. That would be the best way to change the tps - to take the whole throttle body off and put new gaskets on and tps on it. To me it sounds more like a TPS (throttle positioning sensor) switch has gone bad and is located on the throttle body.

When my 2003 Pontiac Sunfire starts the RPM's go way up and then finally goes down? What could be the problem?


IT COULD HAVE A VACUUM LEAK OR SUCKING AIR AROUND THROTTLE BODY. IDLE AIR SENSOR HAVE IT CHECKED.

Finding the TPS


Look for the throttle cabe and follow the cable you will see the throttle postion switch at the throttle plate in the air intake for the engine.
