I have experienced where the wiring harness in the steering column was the fault. The lights would work when the tilt steering was in the correct angle. The problem will get progressively worse till the lights will not work at all. this occurs when the connector arcs enough to prevent good contact,

Jennifer,

It would be nice to know what three things they are suggesting as potential solutions, and with little detail to go on I can only give you some ideas, all of which should be tested and verified before doing any repairs.

The problem is most likely a ground or harness connector that is loose or corroded.

I would start by having the battery connections cleaned, test the battery and Alternator, not just a voltage test but a load test for amperage and an alternator diode test.

Bad batteries and alternator diode problems cause a lot of computer related issues including false codes and erratic gauge/light operation, just because a battery starts the car doesn't make it good, its not as simple as that anymore!

Look for grounds near the battery and under the dash near the steering column, anything that is bolted directly to the body, frame or engine block is a ground, with the battery disconnected, loosen and re-tighten any grounds you can find even if they look ok and seem tight, do it anyway, especially the ones near the battery and under the dash.

There can also be problems with the "BUS" that is used for communication between the various modules in the car, causing weird things to happen like what you are experiencing.

Good luck!

This is a funny question as i have never heard anything like this before now if all the dash is going dim and it will not start except when flasher turned on then i would suspect a problem with a earth somewhere along the line ,maybe up under the dash is a earth connection with more than one wire going to it and this is connection has corroded which is why it works with indicator on as this is earthing something ,what or how i have no idea without my head under the bonnet and dash ,Sorry i couldnt be more helpfull

2000 saturn ls1 dash lights up, head lights and radio work, but won't turn over. Doesn't make a sound. If I get it jumped it stays running until I shut it off.

check for a loose or corroded connection on the battery, clean the clamps and pattery posts.
make sure the clamps are securely tightened on the posts and that the wires are not loose or corroded at the clamp. alos check for loose or damaged ground wires coming from the battery or the teminal / clamp
hope this helps

I have a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire with a 2.2L motor. It runs great considering how old it is. Last week I started it up and several of my dash lights stayed on. They are: The oil light, the battery...

Sounds to be the dash itself. there is a chip in there and it sounds like it shorted out. You have to replace the panel. Junk yard would be best and cheapest.

1994 toyota estima intermittant start problem. makes click

This could be a grounding problem. Check all battery connections. Also check motor to body ground strap for corrosion. Check battery to motor ground and battery to body ground. Even if the ground looks allright it can be corroder underneath, so you have to take the ground bolt off to clean it.

My 95 cavalier.when i put it in gear all my lights come on in the dash but my cheack eng light is not on,or my oil light.also my day light running lights dont work eather.what could be the problem.

On my Cav, the battery plate had rusted/corroded away pretty good. The negative battery cable runs from the battery to the battery plate and then to the bolt on the engine. The place where the battery cable connected to the plate rusted apart. I attempted a fix by running a wire from the spot on the cable where it was connected and ground it myself, but that didn't work. Anyways, I handed it over to the mechanic and they found additional ground wire UNDER the battery plate that had also been rusted/corroded through. They replaced the ground wires and ALMOST all the lights went off. The exceptions were the ABS light will sometimes come on, but this is due to a failure in the ABS unit (which is like $400) to fix. The only light is the daytime runner light and I really didn't care about that one. :) Hope this helps.

check your interior fuse panel. does it look wet or corroded? is there a water leak maybe from the the window if you have a sun roof the drain could be leaking into the car. or it could just be a problem with a module or a corroded ground or other conection.
