Question about BMW 525

1 Answer

I have a BMW 525i (02) and the cold/hot air has stopped working. For the past few weeks, sometimes when I switched the car on for the first time in the morning, there was slight noise, what appeared to be something to do with the fan.

Could be a carbon brush issue of the fan. try to wiggle the wire that goes to the fan. if the fan runs, then it is a carbon brush problem. you need to replace the carbon brush of the motor.

You should make sure there is no air in the cooling system. With the engine COLD open the bleeder screw, take the cooling cap off, make sure it is full, put your mouth on the neck and blow until a clear stream of antifreeze comes out the bleeder. Then close the bleeder, top up the coolant, and you should be good to go, unless there is another problem.

Hi i have BMW 525i 2004 from time to time when

It is very important that the engine not overheat! The head can crack and this would be very bad.
I think your car is too new to need a new radiator.
Make sure the coolant level is correct.
Check the thermostat housing for leaks.
When the engine is hot, check if the fan clutch is locked up and actually driving the fan. Turn the engine off and grab the fan and try to turn it. It should turn stiffly. If it spins freely the fan clutch is dead.
It is possible that the water pump impeller has failed, especially if it is a plastic one.

this is just a rough guess, but i think it would be the battery or the alternator. Some part store have testers that they will check both for free.
