Question about Mitsubishi Pickup

1 Answer

Drove my 2005 trition glxr into wheel ruts and my abs light came on and my front brakes stayed on making it impossible to get my ute out of the mud. I had to call a mate to come and winch me out, as soon as I was free of the ruts my brakes dissingaged and I was free to continue. Is there an easy way of dissengaging the abs if this should happen again?

Why would the abs light be on?

Each wheel has a magnetic sensor and a slotted ring that generates the ABS pulse. The sensor can get dirty (rust, mud and brake dust) and have to be cleaned. The replaceable slotted ring often rusts in older cars. The cable from the wheel sensors to the body, while very tough, can get damaged or disconnected. Its usually the front ones.

You may need new rotors.
Subarus requires the same make and size of tires front and rear. Mixing sizes can cause a mismatch in the ABS signals from each end, and this will often cause the ABS light to come on.
The ABS computer may have failed.

If ABS is working more or less correctly, hitting the brakes on loose dirt or snow/ice should result in the pedal kick back and the buzzing of the ABS valve system.

I have a 2005 Equinox. The abs and tc light are on. Also there is an occaisional sound and vibration when I press on the brakes going at a slow rate of speed. The local Chevy dealer test drove the...

Have a competent mechanic scan the codes in the ABS control. A common fail point of the 2005 Equinox is the wire harness jumper for the drivers front wheel sensor. This is a foot and a half long jumper that connects the wheel sensor to the engine compartment wire harness. It is rigidly held in place by a couple of plastic stays that create a pinch flex point just beneath the lower stay where wheel turn moves the wire against this rigid point. After about 60-80k miles, the wire begins to break down in the insulator and false wheel speed readings are read as false wheel slip indications while the ABS system tries to modulate brake pressure. This modlation creates the grinding feel. After an amount of time, the ABS computer "recognizes" this as a fault and shuts ABS and traction control off since both systems use the wheel spin input, and the dash lights light.
Although this is a pretty pricey part at a dealer, a genuine Delco replacement part can be found online often at a much more reasonable price.

The ABS light on my 2005 Grand Caravan has been on (front wheel speed sensors need replacement). The brake light started coming on intermittently and now stays on, checked the reservoir sensor, and the...

The ABS works according to what the speed sensor tells it. The sensor may be bad or it senses a broken tooth on the tone wheel (the sensor reads these teeth on the tone wheel, found in the hub).
You will still have Brakes, but not the ABS. You can switch the sensors from the good side to the bad to see if it is in fact the sensor itself. Good luck!

I gotta 2005 dodge ram 2500 4x4 3/4 ton i uplugged he front abs sensor from wheel hub assembly and now abs light is on what do i do to clear the light

you cannot clear light while sensor is unplugged. the light is on because the computer is not seeing a reading for the wheel speed. when the light comes on your brakes will operate normally but you will not have any anti lock brakes so take care not to lock up your brakes during hard braking.

My 2006 ford f-150 abs indicators is on and im unsure why?

D, not much to go on here. But a shot in the dark, Several things can make the abs light pop on. Been in mud lately? The wheel speed sensors can get full of mud. Some people use a high pressure washer and that may knock the sensor out of position. The abs light comes on for a bad sensor which should code. If you had brakes done recently make sure they put the correct rotors on. Happened to someone I know. Wrong rotors and the light wouldn't go out. I hope its just mud and dirt. Check the rear sensor and make sure it nor any others on front came unplugged

1993 Cavalier ABS light and parking brake light both stay on

The fuse is probably blown or the sensor at the front wheel got hit by a hard ball of snow, the ABS sensor is at the front wheels and you have to get under the car to get a look at it.
