Probably the starter itself, or the starter solenoid on the side of the starter. Usually only available as one unit anyway for most vehicles. Make sure the starter motor connections are all tight before replacing it, wiring and retaining bolts, hopefully that's all it is. The other possibility is that the flywheel ring-gear could be damaged and not allowing the starter pinion gear to engage, in which case that would need to be replaced also, which involves removing the gearbox, so hope thats not the problem!

Hope this helps,
Mark.

Check battery connections and cables. Ground may be broken. Remove cables and clean battery posts then reconnect cables.
Check ignition switch, replace as needed.

Hyundai accent 2001 will not start all lights work radio works heater fan works battery in 3 months old when I turn the key all i hear is a humming sound for about 1 min. than nothing. weather has be

The humming would be the fuel pump coming on. It should only hum for a few seconds, then shut off.
Your problem is with the start circuit from the battery to the starter, or from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Check the connections at the starter (the big cable) for tightness.
Is the battery charged up enough to turn the engine over? Check by turning headlights on and observe while someone turns key to crank. If they dim a LOT, then either battery is too low, or the starter is bad and needs removing for testing. If brightness doesn't change, then the circuit from ignition switch to starter solenoid is likely not working. Check for 12 volts at the small wire to starter solenoid with key in cranking position. If you have power there, the solenoid may be bad. Remove starter for testing. If no power at solenoid in starting position, then either the ignition switch is bad or the neutral safety switch might be the problem, or the wiring from the switch to the starter solenoid is not passing current.
Good luck.

Turn key on nothing ,trun key off and on three or four time then it start

Either u got problem in ur ignition switch contactor(it is located aty the end of ur ignition key assembly) or the starter solenoid.

Do u hear any clicking sound when u try to crank ur ignition key? if u hear some clicking sound that means ur starter solenoid got problem.

If u don't hear ny clicking sound, that means ur contactor in the switch is at fault!

better bring ur car to ur nearest garage to fix on that, if u can fix it it by urself try it.

Yes i have a 2003 chev malibu while i was driving the car shut off , the car cranked and didnt start, then i was acting like the battery was dead nothing happened when i turned the key , then now it cranks...

have scanned if light is on. it sounds like a bad crank sensor. it controls the timing. either that or you may have a bad ignition switch!! if no power from switch, then no start.

When I turn the key in the ignition I don't hear anything and my car won't start. I tested the started and it is fine. I replaced the ignition switch. Could it be my alternator or my neutral safety switch...

no. the noise you're not hearing is the fuel pump. When u turn ur key on you should hear a buzzing like sound from the rear of the vehicle. If not, and ur car don' start, probably fuel pump. Just to verify the faulty fuel pump, have an assistant open the fuel tank cover and remove the gas cap itself. With you inside turn just the key on, and have your assistant listen for the "buzzing" or "hummin" sound. if nothing there, then faulty fuel pump. If noise is present, then perhaps you have a different problem like nothing is reaching the engine, fuel wise. Like a plugged fuel filter. when replacing the fuel pump, ALWAYS do the new strainer as installing the old one could cause a whole new set of problems and eventually wipe out the new one as well *RULE OF THUMB, WITH NEW FUEL PUMP, REPLACE FUEL FITLER.* this will be easier on the pump output to the engine. good luck.!

Turns over,won't start

You first have to determine if its fire or fuel. To do this listen when you turn on the ignition switch, You should hear a buzzing sound from the fuel tank to indicate your fuel pump is working. If no sound check pump fuse and relay. If you hear the sound spray quick start into the intake manifold and try to start. If it starts or try's to start its a problem with fuel pressure or fuel filter. If you get nothing it's likely fire.

Check, clean and tighten your battery posts, and the power connection to the starter and ground. Make certain the battery is good and charged, Perhaps you have a bad starter motor, or the engine is frozen (will not turn over). I think the ignition switch is okay, because your lights dim when you try to start. This indicates power is getting to the starter (at least some).

Car wont start

If you are hearing loud clicking, this is usually the starter silinoid. This part makes a loud clicking sound if the battery cannot supply enough amperage to operate the starter to turn over the engine. The battery must supply at least 80 to 100 Amps on a normal day to start the engine.

The battery can only be tested for amperage output with a load tester. The battery may be defective from age and use, or from the alternator going defective and damaging the battery.
