Question about Mazda Tribute

1 Answer

This 03 mazda tribute has just recently started to burn up voltage regulators in the altinator. I have put 3 alt.'s on this already and it now looks like I'll need to do a forth!! 1st time in: AVR test found that the battery was very weak even after a charge. the test also revealed that my alt. was not produceing enough voltage 11.5v peak @ 2000rpm 2nd time in: i had a whine noise under the hood. my new alt. had a bad bearing in it, replaced alt. again 3rd time in: my batt. light had begun to flicker, the whine noise had returned and my gauges where erratic. AVR test found alt. was over charging 17.2v @2000rpm. told them to throughly check all wireing they assured me this was done. replaced alt. again!!!! next day batt. light flickerd took it back. AVR test reveald alt. was under charging 11.6v @ 2000rpm. note: since the first time in all other work and parts have been warenty. lucky for me!! Any HELP PLEASE!!!

I have had a string of bad alternators through my shop lately all made by USA alternator. I would breakdown and get an OEM part in this case. I would also bench test alternator prior to installation

Alternator wire diagram

I'm afraid not. The alternators as well as the trucks are wired differently.
The black yellow wire on both models goes to the fuse box, but on the 2005 model with the extra wire, the gray orange and brown white wires goe to the engine computer which acts as the voltage regulator. The 2003 computer would not have provisions for those circuits.

I have a 2006 mazda tribute , i replaced the altinator a week ago because the dash lights and headlamps were blinking on and off. replaced the altinator and it was good for a week.... now it is happen

Check for voltage at the battery with the engine running. If you have around or more than 14 volts than the alternator is working. If the vehicle starts with a jump and continues to run without starting than the alternator is doing its job. You likely need a new battery. Most auto parts store will check it for free. If the battery is bad replacing it sooner rather than later will be the best choice.

03 Mazda Tribute's charging indicator light begins flashing on and off when engine reaches 1200 rpm and becomes contineously on at and above 1500 rpm. With engine idling or decelerating to below 1200 rpm...

It may be that the light is being tripped due to an "over voltage" condition. The faster you spin the alternator/engine the higher the voltage output of the alternator. I would test the voltage coming out of the alternator. It should be at about 14.3v or so max. If it gets into the 16v+ range when you increase the engine RPM then the voltage regulator has failed and needs to be replaced.

Replace the battery.its the cells in the battery causing the altinator to over charge due to a short cucuit in the battery. The altinator has a regulator built inside. So ypur battery is at fault.

My alternator on my 86 econoline rv is putting out 45+ volts. Is that possible? Is the alternator fried or wired wrong?

DO NOT run it for long you will burn something up....most likely the ALT. REGULATOR is stuck, advise a new alt and retest....normal out-put is 12.5V>14.0V...15>25A with everything else good....I have never seen 45+V but it's possible with a shorted regulator ....hope this helps you...GL
