Why can,t i bump start my ford escort? also the starter motor seems to be jammed.

If you cant push start your vehicle, AND the starter is locked up, then you MOST LIKELY have a locked up motor. You will have to replace the motor. BUT, before you spend all that money, i would try putting a new starter on the car first. I sure hope this helps, James Booth

Hi there,

Check the earth strap from the starter motor to the neg battery. Clean up the ends witha wire brush and refit. Try the ignition again. Make sure the other wires going to the starter motor are in good condition.

Stater up (sic) and away you go.

Vote for me when this works, thanks.

I need a diagram to get the starter out of my 1998 Ford Escort.

Your starter is located on the back side of the engine at the top of the transmission bell housing, under the intake manifold. You can reach the main battery wire, and switch wire, by reaching from the right hand side under the intake manifold, the starter mounting bolts can be accessed by removing the air intake hose. Hope this helps, let me know.
