It's probably your exhaust system. There are heat shields to protect the car from the high temp of the exhaust pipe, they come loose (corrosion of metal from exposure to water, road salt, etc) and will rattle at certain rpms. It could also be the exhaust system touching the car frame. Either scenario, it isn't serious, just annoying.

Rattle from car at 1900revs only when in gear

moving noise is very hard to find.

could well be exhaust shields,
did you take a rubber mallet and tap the parts (exh, end to end?)
bang ,rattle, bang , repeat
seen many bad CAT (brick inside loose) rattle. hit it. bingo. there you go.

i also jam objects in cat shelds to stop them for making noise.
just for temporary to find source.

Rattling noise , engine noise, that accelerates while increasing speed.

if this is under the hood (front of car), it could be an exhaust heat shield that is either corroded loose or a fastener has come loose. Does it happen when you rev the engine in park? if so, either have someone rev while you watch for whatever is rattling or have them watch while you rev.

Rattling noise when at low revs

the rattling noise most likely will be detonation. That is spontanious combustion before the spark occurs. causes vary but wrong octaine rating is one reason ,spark timing another.if you have an efi car it could be at the timing sensor. or a distributor car the saprk advance is wrong. Some efi engines can't adjust to hot weather to well so the fuel setting go out. however be aware that you have to have this checked out as it can still occur at higher revs it is just that you can't hear it. End result will be holes melted in the top of the pistons

My 2000 Nissan xterra started shaking while idling and the service engine light came on. I changed the oil and it feels better. It doesnt knock In neutral or park. It also rattles till you hit about 30...

Also- the rattle is most likely the valve lifters. The lifters on this engine and the model previous (I have owned both to 180k miles or more) lose pressure when the motor is off. They re-pressureize with engine oil after the motor starts and tap a little until they "pump up" to full size. Just don't drive until the rattle dies down and as long as it is under 30 seconds or so- you will be fine there.

Hi i have a 96 excel x3 and at start up it rattles and under revs it rattles and have to find the right spot so it dont rattle wen im driven

It could have many problems. It could be bearing/piston noise. A head gasket blown cylinder to cylinder or many other problems. I would reccomend not driving it. Get a mechanic to listen too it. He should be able to tell you if its a major engine problem .

i would check all the basics like spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. With a can of 2+2 carb cleaner while engine is running --if idle goes up or down that is were your leak is--
check egr too, Lee

My Fiat Brava SX automatic rattles at low revs,

Have the catalytic converter heat shield checked. Sometimes they vibrate loose and caus strange rattles or buzzing noises.

1995 Diamante overheats on hills.

Hi,
The heating up as you build revs, to me, indicates a partially oped thermostat. If it hasn't been replaced, I would do so. It's inexpensive and easy enough to do. Make sure you get a gasket with it.
The rattling thing is another matter. Do you think it is the water pump that is rattling? Does it ever drip from under your engine all the time?
Just curious...
Hope this helps... Good luck!
